The toxicology report should be interesting. Supposedly Anna Nicole Smith had nothing on him in terms of prescription drug misuse. They were talking about him mixing it up with cocaine last night too. He probably was doing coke for years which could be part of why his nose was rotting off his face. He was likely surrounded by a miniature army of enablers too.

The message boards on this website get more and more hateful all the time. When I was growing up, the new wavers were the misfits who, when you got to know them, turned out to be the coolest, most welcoming, accepting people you would want to know. I feel like so many of them grew up to be cynical and jaded individuals who think that new wave is the only music that should have ever existed.

I grew up in the 80s. And as much as I loved new wave, I was also hugely impacted by people like Michael Jackson and Madonna. And while Michael's later years were highly controversial, as an artist in the 80s, he released some of the most memorable popular music ever. I miss that Michael. I've missed him for nearly 20 years, and am very saddened that the person who was once him has passed. Just as much as I'm saddened by losing another icon of my childhood in the same day--Farrah Fawcett. To me, their deaths signify a death of part of my childhood, and now I understand why my parents were so saddened by the deaths of people like Elvis Presley and John Lennon. These people--regardless of their personal lives--truly touch our souls as entertainers.

Classic moment last night. For some reason, flipped onto Larry King who had P. Diddy on the phone (among others). King referred to him as "The Daddy". After Diddy had his say about Michael, King awkwardly tried to apologize about calling him the wrong name with some lame explanation. When Larry asked him a subsequent question, Diddy was gone!

My guess is, Diddy pulled his own plug after realizing Larry was in retard mode... and not wanting to continue suffering the indignity of having to share airtime with Corey Feldman.

When all is said and done, I am betting that the evidence will reveal that MIchael had a major impact in contributing to his own death. Which is way different from the way Lennon went.

Plus, whereas Lennon and The Beatles made you believed changing the world was possible, all Michael did was change his face. He "started with the man in the mirror" all right.

I was never a big fan of him & his music, but [i]Thriller[/i] came out when we were in high school, and it was ubiquitous. In that way, he kind of was a huge part of our preteen/ teen years. He helped define MTV. You couldn't get away from his image and iconography, even if you hated him. It was sad and creepy to see what he became, compared to his younger success.

I agree with KYYX. I personally couldn't stand Thriller or any of his subsequent releases, even back when they were popular. To this day I've always found his vocal tics ("tee-hee-hee", "'moan girl", etc) particularly irritating. I recognize that anyone growing up in the '80s that didn't live in a cave was exposed to his music/videos practically constantly, but I'm not going to have a "where were you when JFK died" moment here. He was a hugely popular entertainer and recording artist, but he just didn't impact me (either as an audiophile or a musician) all that much.

I appreciate that others had a much bigger connection with his music and would choose to grieve over his loss. I've just never had that connection with him or his music.
