it seems like there's a reaction against radio hits ans stars here,
but the casual 80s fan lives for Mickey, C Mon Eileen, Tainted Love,
and all the popular hits of that period...
hardcore message board people are much deeper into everything than
the 'turn on the radio for 20 minutes' people who comprise the masses...
and I'm sure that Toyah isn't losing sleep over a handful of hardcore
message board folks getting sassy...

Other than "Road to Nowhere" I really can't stand the Talking Heads.

I also hate "Genius of Love" by The Tom Tom Club.

And "Mickey" though I don't know if it's really New Wave, is probably the 2nd worst song of all time.

I really like Japan though.

And now, to confess a shocking truth: as a major DD fan, this is one of my least favorite songs by them. (I should add that I stopped listening to them after [i]Seven & The Ragged Tiger[/i]. ) But anyway, "The Reflex" marked a segue that the guys were making into this bombastic, glammed-up dance music--"A View To a Kill" and "Wild Boys": UGH!) that just grated on my ears. I can't even listen to these 3 songs nowadays in a wine-drinking-induced musical nostalgia.

There's lots to mention but here's just a few for starters.

All of Wang Chung's songs with the exception of "To live and die in LA" and "Hypnotize Me" which are awesome.

M - Pop Muzik
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle (Sorry they have better songs)
Oingo Boingo - Little Girls (Love Oingo but this one has always got on my nerves)
Thompson Twins - Don't Mess With Dr. Dream
Men At Work - Be Good Johnny (Crappy)
The Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian (Double Crappy)
Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie (Triple Crappy)

Kool_Kat reminded me of my all time least fave - The Bangles "Walk Like An Egyptian". That one was beat to death as much or more than any listed here and I couldn't even stand it when I first heard it!

Luckily they almost make up for it with their good early stuff...

Same thing, there's almost no DD song I don't love... and this one, I hate.

That DEVO cover of Satisfaction is also pretty hideous to me.

Hate Hot Hot Hot! by The Cure... one of their worst tracks ever. DM's Pipeline is sort of there in the list.

But no way one could hate Genius of Love by Tom Tom Club, it's a great song. Quiet Life doesn't bother me... not my fav song by Japan, but is ok... their cover version of "All tomorrow's parties", does throw me off... a very hard song to cover, I only know one cover of it that is actually good and it's by a chilean band no one knows.

Uhhhhhh......anything by the B-52's, Howard Jones, New Order, Spandau Ballet, Heaven 17, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Wang Chung, the Romantics, Falco, ABC.

Nearly everything by INXS, Thompson Twins, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Tears For Fears.

Some particularly pernicious offenders that make me want to pierce my own eardrums:

Thomas Dolby - "She Blinded Me With Science"
Squeeze - "Tempted"
Ultravox - "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes"
EBN/OZN - "AEIOU Sometimes Y"
Human League - "Human"
The Motels - "Only the Lonely"
'Til Tuesday - "Voices Carry"
Naked Eyes - "Promises, Promises"
Taco - "Puttin' on the Ritz"

I like or can at least tolerate most of what's been listed so far. My hatred is reserved for:

Band Aid - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" Or any other xmas song unless it's by Fear.

Madness - "Our House". People like this? Really?

Big Audio Dynamite - Anything by them. It sucked then and it's even more laughable now.

Art Of Noise - Anything by them. I like art. I like noise. They were neither.

Oh ... and of course THE Caring FIELD of COLOURful Lippi Lippi Swans. [xx(]

- I hate Madness, The Specials, The Beat, and pretty much any Ska. I can't stand to listen to any of it for more than a few seconds before I skip all those songs.

- I don't care for Simple Minds at all, including their one or two hits.

- Fuckin' hate The Cocteau Twins, The Bolshoi, and Siouxsie Sioux (with the exception of one or two songs)

- I can't listen to any Depeche Mode after [i]Songs Of Faith And Devotion[/i].

- Joy Division sounds like shit to me, except for two songs.

- Never cared for The Stray Cats.

- Adam Ant and Bow Wow Wow? Annoying as hell.

- The Police and POO2 are way overrated.

- Classix Nouveaux are cheezy.

- I've tried to like Marc Almond, but I don't like his songs (I might still give 'im a chance, though).

Wow, for regular posters on a New Wave site, that's a lot of hatred for a ton of New Wave classics. Are you sure you people even like New Wave? I realize everyone's entitled to their own opinion but I found a lot of what's posted to be pretty shocking. But I must give everyone much credit for not citing ANY song by Altered Images. Yay!

Yeah, this pretty much wiped out everybody from ABC to Ultravox. Gotta agree with the Haysi Fantayzee though.
