(and maybe Katrina and the waves "Walkin on Sunshine") have been beaten to death, hell, and back & done all over again. These are staples of any Radio Stations playlists pretty much.

I dig the majority of the stuff listed here and I have songs, albums, and/or compilations of the bands I dislike. It just comes with the territory that there are going to be some which would never make the cut.

As the original starter of this post, I was expecting rather modest lists as well, but this is very revealing. Certain songs on here I consider the epitome of perfect new wave, so I'm surprised they made anyone's list. There are definitely various definitions of 'new wave', which is why people seem to loathe certain artists completely (there are some artists I have absolutely no use for and don't consider new wave at all myself).

I don't know about everyone else, but I completely walked away from 80s music in the 90s. I was going out to theses 'new wave' clubs so much until the end of 1991, and suddenly decided, I can NOT listen to any of these songs EVER again. I pretty much ignored grunge and went directly to the underground club scene--tecnho, rave, hardhouse--thinking I had once again found the ultimate music experience. Well guess what? Come 2001-2002, I was SICK of this stuff, and still can't listen to even my favorite 90s classics. Now I'm totally loving everything 80s again and all the nostalgia it brings (which is why I've come to appreciate stuff I didn't like back then--much of it reminds me of new waver friends who made me listen to the other side of new wave that I despised). I guess absence did make the heart grow fonder. And I assume in a couple of years I'm going to love 90s music again.

Why all the dislike towards Haysi Fantayzee? Not only is Kate Garner extremely attractive but she has one hell of a voice too.

"She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby definitely makes my list. Most anything by Thomas Dolby for that matter makes my list. I can only tolerate "Dissidents" and "Hyperactive" in small doses.

Tears For Fears rank in my most hated 80's bands of all time. They are completely ignorable to me.

The Smiths are very hit or miss with me. I only like a handful of their songs.

"Girls On Film" by Duran Duran and "Some Like It Hot" by Power Station as a matter of fact nothing by Power Station excites me.

I am sure there are more but this is what I can think of off the top of my head.

I never really got tired of listening to any of the music I liked back then. I just went on accumulating songs and albums that I like. There's very little that I liked then which I don't like now (or it sounds too juvenile). I remember I used to love Clan Of Xymox, but now I can barely listen to some of their songs. The rest are way too teen-angsty. They were great back then, but outta place now[}:)]

WOW,i dont know what new wave 7/8 of this board listened to.I agree some songs were run into the ground But to hate Some of the best new wave bands like DM and New order and erasure and so on...and some of the great one hit wonders of that era..come on now..IMHO..

Every time this topic comes up, someone always says "I can't believe you people, how can you be on a NW board and not like...." As if NW was some monolithic culture that had litmus tests you had to pass so that you can be a member.

Lighten up people. That's not what NW was about, and you should know it. There were probably at least a dozen subgenres under the NW umbrella. Who says everyone has to like all of it?

Well, yeah, New Wave has a monolithic litmus test in order to be a member. I don't have to like all of it, but rest assured I know it. Most people out there don't know shit about New Wave, even the most basic and rudimentary. Whereas, everyone on this board/thread knows these bands, artists, and songs[}:)]
