I know they weren't New Wave, even though members of Duran Duran were in the band, but any of the Power Station songs were pure shit.

Another came to mind. Cetu Javu's "Situations." It got all the airplay here in NY on WDRE, while the follow-up "Have in Mind" was pretty much ignored. I love Have in Mind and never liked Situations.

This is just a small list, I probably have thousands more and I know, there might be a few that may not fall exactly under the new wave umbrella. I'm not a follower of the "mainstream" new wave pap that was blasted all over the radio and Mtv....as a matter of fact, I stopped watching Mtv around the release of Thriller which in my opinion killed Mtv.

I can't do songs. Too many to mention... But Anything from Pet Shop Boys, most stuff from 1987 onwards especially stuff like Naked Eyes, Go West, T Dolby, Howard Jones, Escape Club, Men Without Hats, Toyah, Mr Mister, Cutting Crew, Late 80's ABC DD Thompson Twins and TFF, FYC, eurythmics after album 3, Falco (although I do like his camp factor), INXS basically anything from "Kick" and thereafter. The whole genre died for me from the "over-production game" in the latter part of the decade. Unbearable now to listen to those shitty synths they were using to crack the top 40. God that stuff is stale.
Ironically I did like the early Clan of Xymox stuff because it wasn't like the other stuff, and I still really like it. That is why I have a deep like for goth because it was a reaction to the other drivel being forced down my throat.

I have a friend who claims that the day MTV went on the air is the day that New Wave died. I tell him he could not be any more wrong. Look at some of the great bands whose careers were just starting to take off during this time period.

He's trying to claim things he doesn't know jack about!

Let's face it. Nothing can stay 'new' forever. Just because it was called NEW wave, didn't mean it would last for ever. We could have called ANY genre new wave, because at its time, each WAS the new wave of music--disco, heavy metal, rap, hip hop. And just like those genres and based on the SOUND rather than the title it's given, there absolutely IS new 'new wave' coming out all the time. Sure, technology may have changed the instrumentation slightly in the last 30 years, but the overall sound is the same. For anyone who loves 'new wave' and says that ALL music coming out today is crap, then they just aren't looking--or listening--hard enough. If anything, modern new wave is much more easy to discover today because back then all we relied on was a new wave radio station here and there and MTV occasionally. Now, the internet can basically find it for you.

I'm shocked that some mentioned -The Cure-Disintegration-their best record IMO. To each his own i guess.

I'm also shocked by so many who have mentioned "The Smiths", as how could anyone get sick of, or hate them? fantastic band.

Anything past DM's first? Come On!! Music For The Masses-brilliant Black Celebration-Brilliant, Some Great Reward-Briliant Brilliant Brilliant. If anything, ALL of their stuff post Violator is crap(except Playing the Angel which is very good).

Just the sort of music to play down the union bar to show how indie and on the left their tastes are when in reality the only difference between them and some other dreary major label guitar act is the label. Wouldn't even go as far as their first album. When I started getting into 80s music in the late '90s I went and bought albums and best ofs by Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees etc. and soon got bored of them. Depeche Mode started off as four young men with the heads stuck up their collective arseholes and became three middle-aged men with their heads stuck up their collective arseholes.
