I like a lot of the soundtracks mentioned here that I didn't include. Unfortunately I couldn't fit them all on one itty bitty little poll. If I ever get around to it I'll do a part two. Ain't nothing wrong with the Lost Boys. Great movie. I watch it at least two or three times a month. And the soundtrack contains one of the best songs of all time.

Lest we not forget <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081695/soundtrack" target="blank">'Up The Academy'</a> that little 1980 flick long since disowned by MAD magazine. Another lame movie with a decent soundtrack.

Don't forget the great Rupert Hine soundtrack for Better Off Dead, featuring Cy Curnin, Jamie West-Oram, Terri Nunn, Martin Ansell, and E.G. Daily.

Also worth mentioning is Sixteen Candles, which had The Specials, Oingo Boingo, Thompson Twins, The Revillos, Nick Heyward, etc.

Definitely Ferris Bueller, even though it was never an "official" soundtrack release. Should have been.

[i]Party Party[/i], A British film from 1983 has an excellent soundtrack (Altered Images, Elvis Colstello, Madness, Bananarama, Pauline Black of The Selector, Midge Ure, Modern Romance, Bad Manners, Sting, etc.)

Other New Wave favorites: [i]Married to the Mob[/i], [i]Something Wild[/i], [i]Valley Girl[/i], [i]Some Kind of Wonderful[/i], [i]Sixteen Candles[/i]. So many excellent ones.

Plus there quite a few punk sountracks that are favorites: [i]Suburbia[/i] and [i]Repo Man[/i].

There are so many good soundtracks from the 80's. I had to vote other, without even having a specific one in mind.

Fear No Evil, Once Bitten, and Last American Virgin are literally the only three mentioned in this thread I don't own [:p].

As far as other good ones: Return of the Living Dead, Fright Night, Bachelor Party, Reform School Girls, Ghostbusters (yes I'm serious), Heavy Metal, and probably my vote: The Wraith.

Teen Witch has a great soundtrack too...or would if they ever released one.

EDIT: Rock N Roll High School was 70's I'm pretty sure.

And does anyone know if they ever made a soundtrack to "The Hidden?" I remember the music in that movie being awesome.

Me Without You had an interesting eighties soundtrack. It took place during the time but was made more recently.

I wasn't the music dork in the 80s that I became in the 90s. I started out in the early 80s listening to Xanadu and Urban Cowboy. Then, once my whole family became Christians in 1981, secular music all of the sudden became trash. We all kind of loosened up by the late 80s. I remember enjoying the movie Secret of My Success and wanting the soundtrack. My mother bought it for me. It's not new wave-y in any way, but I listened to it quite a bit, even the John Foster instrumentals. Not the kind of thing I'd listen to today, but it has its special place. But yeah, those 3 were probably the big soundtracks for me.

Secret to My Success had two awesome songs on it:

Don't Ask the Reason Why by Restless Heart
and
I Burn For You by Danny Peck and Nancy Shanks.

Nancy Shanks has an AMAZING voice by the way and as far as I can tell she never did anything else.

very obscure flick in US, but a great tune, melancholy 80's synth stuff. [:D]

Le Professionnel - Chi Mai by by Oscar winner Ennio Morricone

it goes very well with movie's tragic end.
