Huh? Violator came out 20 years ago!!! If by "youngsters" you mean a person in their 40's I'll gladly accept that label.[:D]

I'm not a big fan of "Personal Jesus" either but I always thought "People Are People" and "Just Can't Get Enough" were far more poppier.

I'm a little surprised at how well Violator has placed, most of my friends who listened to DM since the beginning don’t rank that one very high. Much like U2’s Joshua Tree. I always associate those albums as the beginning to the end where much of the fan base was turning over. Haven’t listened to it in 15 years, I’ll cue it up tonight.

I don't listen to Violator, nor Music for the Masses, much these days, either, but I thought both were great back in the day.

Hmm, I think I'll have to list A Broken Frame as my #3 (after Black Celebration and Some Great Reward).

I'm not surprised at all by the placement of [i]Violator.[/i] I think it's pretty well considered the band's masterpiece, and a classic of the genre.

Andy Fletcher said that Black Celebration seemed to be more of the hardcore Depeche fans' favourite, and I tend to agree with him [:)]. It was probably the album before DM went stadium (in North America, anyways).
