80's New England Bands

Guess I should feel privileged to even have "The Ravioli" 45 since there isn't a single one for sale on either musicstack or gemm. Speaking of things you can't find on musicstack or gemm...

Here are a few bands that I remember from listening to WERS' Night Club:
The New Deal, Ed "Moose" Savage (especially "Milk Crate Take-over"), and a band that I was going to make a video of, yet never did, called Positive Affect.

Nope. I did "rummage" a lot when a nearby college radio station threw stuff away. A lot of these things I bought in the late '80s and early '90s at various thrift stores and garage sales. Some things I picked up new in the '80s. Other things I've gotten the last few years on eBay, gemm, etc. I try to hit up the used record stores in Boston on the rare occasions when I'm back there. Plenty of things I haven't crossed off my want list. (The "Hit the Floor" compilation with Alpha Bettys, for one.)

Used to have the Moose and the Mudbugs EP because I thought the cover was funny (the white one with the red milk crates falling down from the sky) but I don't think I ever listened to it. If I did, obviously, it was forgettable. I will check.

Does anyone out there think an obscure VINNY Band CD would be worth producing? Just curious. We did four singles, one LP, and one compilation. I have a ton of stuff that we never pressed.

Hey, who is this? I can't speak for others, but I would certainly buy a copy for myself. Really liked "Olas De Sexo" when I revisited it last month.

tile, I don't have any Dogzilla.

EtherX, three-quarters of that stuff doesn't even ring a bell. I have the Loners 45. Will check for it. I may have a tape of the Buzzarians single but I don't own the record. (If I did, I would have dumped it on eBay. $$$$) I heard the Phobia single once and thought it was garbage.

Hey, who is this? I can't speak for others, but I would certainly buy a copy for myself. Really liked "Olas De Sexo" when I revisited it last month.


I was the front man for VINNY. My name is Ralph. We actually put out 4 singles (3 US releases and one Dutch release). We did the one LP on EAT Records and one song was on a compilation (Modern Method). We also have a video from the opening cut on Olas De Sexo. WAVES. You can see it on VIMEO just google Vimeo and search for it under my name. I have a ton of early VINNY stuff that never made it to Vinyl. I was thinking that I'd put out a CD if there was any interest. I mean besides me and my brother, and the 17 other members...

I was also thinking about doing the same with my brother and I's other two bands that followed VINNY. Semper Fi and The Nor'easters. There is a video from the MTV basement tapes from Semper Fi that is also on my Vimeo page.

Again, I don't know how much of an interest is in this sort of stuff. The VINNY band had some interesting gigs. From Opening up for the POLICE at the RAT in '79 to our last show at the RAT when we opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

This thread's gotten 14,000 views so hopefully I got you guys some new fans. If not, you can always gauge interest at the Noise forums. Those people were much bigger scenesters than I was. If you do compile CDs, definitely please let me know as I don't own anything from Semper Fi and would very much like to have that on CD.

So that's where all the Boston records I can't find have ended up. If you want the Buzzarians 45, you better open up your wallet and be prepared to empty it, because so does everyone else. You can't even find that record in Boston anymore. I just remembered that it's on one of those hyped2death things, so it's still in print and can be yours for about 10 bucks.

"What Will You Do" also goes for some change. Not as much, but I think it fetches 50 bucks give or take. Apparently, there are a lot of KBD collectors out there with great jobs but not so great hearing.
