I was curious as to why some of the people cheering the athletes were wearing Devo hats.

Eight hours to face off against the much hated and despised Russians. And I have tickets to the game!!! Canada v. Russia in men's hockey at the Olympics...the only way it could be better is if it was for the gold medal!!! [8D]

Wow. The most amazing sports experience of my life. My voice is gone from screaming and cheering and my ears are still ringing this morning from the incredible noise at GM Place.

As a Canadian, I've grown up hating the Russians for claiming supremacy in "OUR" game - remember it is only a recent occurrence that NHL players were allowed to play in the Olympics. All those years the Red Army professionals played against our amateurs and Canada hadn't beat the Russians at the Olympics since 1960.

I've tried to explain to a few Americans this morning what it means to beat Russia in men's hockey at the Olympics. Challenging the Russians at hockey is part of what defines us as a nation. And not only did we beat them, we annihilated them. Crushed them. Obliterated them. Dominated them. Embarassed them. Kicked the living shit out of them. Made them our bitches. It wasn't even close, not for a moment. By the third period the Russian players were dancing around away from the boards they were so tired of getting crushed by our players.

For me, this was perhaps sweeter than winning the gold medal is going to be on Sunday. When I've watched Team Canada play on TV, I've always wondered how exciting it would be to actually be at a big game like this...and it was more incredible than I ever imagined. The energy, the buzz, the ecstasy when Getzlaf first scored.

As the crowd started to head for the exits after the game I noticed a (hot) young Russian woman sitting in her seat with tears streaming down her face. It is exactly how I would have felt if the score was the other way around.

A great day for Canada, with a bronze, two silver and a gold medal to boot!

Today's gold medal women's hockey game between Canada and the US will be exciting as well...too close to call...two great teams.

I thought the two womens teams were pretty close. The difference was probably goaltending. The first goal wasn't the goalie's fault, but I think the second one, off the faceoff, should have been stopped. That Poulin chick for Canada will be a force in the next few Olympics, though. She's got a lot of skill.

Sounds like the women had quite a party of their own on the ice after the game with cigars and booze! Nice. I also didn't realize Team USA had so many cute blonds chics on their team.

Seeing the Canadian and US men have a rematch for the gold medal would be an amazing game and an electrifying win. Winning gold against the Fins would be great and all, but doesn't have the same "wow" factor for me.

What a finish to the game with Slovakia. I wasn't worried until the last couple of minutes. Luongo shows his true colours again, and lets in a softie. He hasn't played any better than Brodeur, and really needs to step it up again the US.

The women's curling team chokes. They gave up a two-rock lead in the tenth, then lets Sweden steal one in the 11th end, with Canada having the last shot. Piss me off.

At least we got a gold and bronze in speed skating to make up for it.

OMG! Another 2 GOLD for Canada today for our best ever gold medal haul at the winter Olympics with 12...and chances at at least two more in curling and hockey, and maybe even a shot at 4 man bobsleigh. Right now we have the gold medal lead. We will beat our country's best overall medal haul with at least 25 medals (1 better than Torino). The US will definitely have the most medals overall, but this is an amazing result for our small nation of 35 million people. Way to go, Canada!!!

And might I just congratulate the US now on some outstanding performances in these Olympics. The US should finish with a big improvement in medal count on Torino as well. The determination of your athletes is, in my opinion, a reflection of the character of your nation to overcome and succeed. Well done.

(I might not be in such a gracious mood after the hockey game tomorrow!!!)
