Joy Division on Glenn Beck

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

For the record, I like the "doot doot" song, "fred from jupiter", "shiny, shiny", kajadoodoo and many of the other brilliant oddities of the New Wave genre. Not a fan of frank chickens, flying lizards or tones on tail, though. Bauhaus and Stranglers weren't my thing (although the Strangler's "skin-deep" stuff was good).

What, no rambling attempts to verbally bludgeon others into considering your horribly skewed political viewpoints?

Who ARE you and what have you done with Sappy?

I mention kajadoodoo and djcraig appears... it can't be a coincidence.

Yes, it's true. Myself and the majority of the other members of this board just can't get enough Ptoyah in our lives. She (It) occupies our every waking moment.

For me, scouring this board for another oh so enlightening post from Ptrolla and my Chicken Dance/Kajagoogoo/Macarena remix equals bliss.

LOL at all the dopey liberals crying about a talk show host....always a hissy fit over Rush or Glenn.

Clearly, a misinformed bunch who have never actually listened to either one. Care to rebut anything specific they've said? Didn't think so...so much easier to hurl ad hominem epithets.

How about this: You don't like them, turn them off. I wish I could "turn off" the inexperienced, flummoxed, leftist demagogue currently occupying the White House, but I can't....at least not until 2012.

at least the current occupant was actually elected, not shoved into office by some toothless hillbilly buddies in the supreme court, so that he and dr. evil cheney could start their wars by looking the other way and letting 9 11 happen on their watch

Toyah -

Your political views remind me of a NWO fave: The Thompson Twins, "Lies, Lies, Lies, yea...they're gunna get you!"

If I find any factual error, distortion, unacknowledged misstatement or critical omission of fact, you will donate $50 to NWO (PayPal link above). If I'm unable to do this, I will donate $50 to NWO. LOL That might actually be fun (and a boon to Mike's income) but how about ground rules that no one can use blogs, op/ed pieces, or articles from sites with a liberal or conservative bias (that means no Drudge Report and no Huffington Post) to support their arguments? TMZ of course is neutral. [:D]

Absolutely. "Proving" something does not mean providing a link to an opinion piece/op-ed or some blogger's page. It means taking an exact quote from Mr. Beck and contrasting it to source/reference material-- as impartial authoritative as possible. Obviously there are different degrees of objectivity/subjectivity to this, which is why its important to have someone officiate. In this case, MikeP would get paid either way, so I think he might be the best person to make the call.

I think the only loophole you two would have to work with would be determining if what Beck said was a "work" or a "shoot". [;)]

Hmmmmm....I'm fairly confident I could win on ALL those topics, but I think I like "Tea Party Movement" the best, as the whole thing seems to irk liberals to no end. [:D]

But I'm not sure I can accept your blanket approach of including "any factual error, etc." based a body of work consisting of dozens of broadcast hours, week-in-week-out. There's bound to be a misstatement or two given the sheer volume of material available to review.

Why don't you focus on the SUBSTANCE of a particular argument, instead of trying to uncover a single "gotcha" moment?

Isn't that the problem, Mr. Beck has no argument, it's all irrelative substance tied together with emotional fears and racism.
The thing that is bothersome about the tea party or Glen Beck is how anyone can come to such conclusions that would lead them to speak so loudly with conviction on a platform of fear and racism. I think this would bother any independent thinker with a well rounded social background. Just like those in the 1930's Nazi Germany, who were killed or silenced for speaking out because a facist right wing party of fear and racism took over power and in order to keep the public dumbed, silenced any voice that objected.
Liberal, independent thinkers, keep it up, never take for granted that it couldn't happen here.
