I think the Obama administration should force the [i]entire[/i] oil industry to band together and clean this mess up asap. This time it was BP's f***-up, but next time it will be another one-- they're all part of one big oligopoly anyway. I'm sure this would be met by howls of "Socialism!", though, and the free-market purists would switch from complaining about govt inaction to whining about the govt intervention.

[/quote]Deep sea drilling is a relatively new, high-tech operation. Back up plans, processes and equipment cost a lot of time and money. Cheney's closed-door energy task force eased-off on some of these more costly regulations (although these regulations are required in most of the western world). A favorable-regulatory environment gives BP and other drillers incentive to take more risks.

1. bp became rich through Iran.
2. bp called on the US govt. to depose Iran's leader and instate a puppet regime with the Shah as the leader.
3. The Shah became the picture of all Western Imperialism in the eyes of Iranians... which then led to a popular revolution with radical jizzlamists at the helm.

Hahaha. Hey, guess what? bp caused that shit to happen. In retrospect, if we had a choice of destroying the Gulf of Mexico and buying oil from Iran (which has never destroyed anything US-owned - unprompted), why wouldn't we choose the lesser of two evils? We should send bp to drill near North Korea and, thereby, destroying that country's seas[}:)]

LOL, you're starting to sound like me.

Most of Iran's oil is locked up in long term contracts with China. And all-non-contracted oil is traded on the world market. That means oil coming from Iran is the same as oil from Venezuela, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Alaska. It's like money issued by the banking system-- it's all interchangeable, and you just have to work out shipping fees from whichever intermediary has the contract you bought.

I think our best bet at plugging the leak would be to use Dick Cheney's fat bald head. We won't know until we try. [:)]
