Who? on this board is not a racist...

I think it's clear that this board represents the entire spectrum politically, but I think it's completely unnecessary to try to bait people when it comes to something like racism, while predictably drawing the ire of the regulars here who are more than happy to "throw down". To suggest that the lack of response necessarily implies that the rest of us are guilty as charged is utter nonsense. No one should feel obliged to answer that question out of guilt or fear of reprisal. In all honesty, racism is, sadly, a big gray area and there are degrees of it in almost anyone. Certainly no one could be completely without some form of prejudice at some point in their life, could they? Whether it's belief in stereotypes or full-on fear-driven hatred. There are many muckrackers here that would be considered right-leaning, but this board has always been laissez faire. There's plenty of balanced opinion here -- always has been.

I think the racists you have to be really concerned about are the ones who don't think 'racist' is a dirty word, and the ones who hold some form of power over others. For example, my brother-in-law proudly (but privately) admits to being a racist. He told me that at his job (an exec for a major insurance company in DC), whenever he received a resume that had a name or other details that suggested the applicant was black, he'd immediately throw it in the garbage. This is just a couple of years ago. Now that's pretty f***ing racist. [Further interesting that he's 100% Italian, a group which was considered non-white when their first waves of immigrants arrived on these shores-- and they were a category for internment camps during WWII-- oh well, these folks live in ignorance of history past and present.]

My bro-in-law recently started his own insurance business, so you can guess what his hiring practices are like-- and you can understand why he (and similarly minded people) are fond of the Tea Party and anti-civil rights libertarian candidates.

I'm racist on the same level that Chris Rock is racist, except I'm a latino, so I'm most critical of other latinos[}:)]

Totally wrong. The ones you need to worry about are the ones who feign offense to prejudice in public, but in private are as racist as they come. Bubba and Skeeter are easily dealt with...the closet racist is far more injurious to the cause of racial equality. I know.

So what about people who only really have a problem with one specific race (and for damned good reason)? Where do ... umm ... they fall in the "dangerous" category?

Frankly, I'm not that concerned about what people think or do in their private lives or on their private property. If racism remains locked in the closet, that's about the best you can hope for.

I'd say on the high end based on their ability to focus all their angst to a pinpoint, instead of spreading it around. Can't wait for the input from elviscrapice.

I think the racists you have to be really concerned about are the ones who support subsidizing perfectly capable people under the guise of helping them, creating a dependent welfare class. The quiet bigotry of lowered expectations being as insidious as it is imperceptible.

Then there are those who try to use the "racist card" to unfairly brand a populist political movement who's philosophy threatens them. Johnnie Cochran would be proud.

PS As long as all you Crackers stay on your side of the this board we'll all be fine. [}:)]

I'll go one further. Whenever I hear broad sweeping generalizations about any group based on race, religion, political affiliation etc. my bullshit detector goes up. To paraphrase Lenny Bruce " You can't say 'them'. You have to tell me which one of 'them'."

The quiet bigotry of lowered expectations being as insidious as it is imperceptible.
Sounds like you embrace the Just-World Fallacy.
Lerner taught a class on society and medicine, and he noticed many students thought poor people were just lazy people who wanted a handout.

So, he conducted another study where he had two men solve puzzles. At the end, one of them was randomly awarded a large sum of money. The observers were told the reward was completely random.

Still, when asked later to evaluate the two men, people said the one who got the award was smarter, more talented, better at solving puzzles and more productive... most psychologists have come to the same conclusion: You want the world to be fair, so you pretend it is.
...
This, of course, is not always true. Success is often greatly influenced by when you were born, where you grew up, the socioeconomic status of your family and random chance. All the hard work in the world can’t change those initial factors, which is not to say you should just give up if you were born poor.
...
You want to feel in control, so you assume as long as you avoid bad behavior, you won’t be harmed. You feel safer when you believe those who engage in bad behavior end up on the street, or pregnant, or addicted, or raped.
...
Deep down, you want to believe hard work and virtue will lead to success, and laziness, evil and manipulation will lead to ruin, so you go ahead and edit the world to match those expectations.

mehh.. personally I like to keep shit simple.

There are 2 types of people in the world:

1. Decent people and;
2. C*nts.

... and eveyrone is a c*nt until they prove themselves otherwise.

Race doesn't come in to it for me at all.
