I just found out now, about their 2006 60's cover album together... (Edit.. & Vol 2, '70's covers too) ..
By poking around YouTube ... Here's a sample for those that might have been in the dark like me [:)][:D] ...

I hope the rest of the tracks are better than this song, which adds nothing to the original. The 60's groups-- The Who, The Beatles, The Kinks, Pretty Things, Love, Beach Boys -- these are all bands who were really original & distinctive -- it's very difficult to pull off a respectable cover of that material.

I have both of those albums. The covers of "I See The Rain" (originally by The Marmalade) and Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" (done in the style of The Byrds' cover version) are the most successful on the first record IMO. The rest are pleasant but nothing earth shattering. It's tough to cover 60's tracks, as Sally mentioned, because the production/arrangement of the original recordings is almost as important as the songs themselves. The 70's followup disc may have been a little more successful because there was more of a homogenized feel to records made by 70's singer/songwriters but I was less enamored with the songs they chose to cover. Apparently a 3rd volume is being discussed of 80's tunes, which is interesting because both Hoffs and Sweet began their own recording careers in the 80's.

I wonder what the hell Susanna Hoffs must eat for breakfast? For 50 she could easily pass for 30!

Wow, interesting trivia. I have a bit more respect for that song now-- which was practically zip because it's been destroyed by ez listening radio stations and supermarket muzak.

I think she absolutely nails the vocal on "Sunday Morning," and her "Maggie May" is great, too. My problem with the second record is that the drums are muted and get lost in the mix. "And Your Bird Can Sing" on the first record is great.
