Along with synthesizers, I think that saxophones played a big part in 80's music. I think part of the appeal of some great new wave songs were the killer sax solos some of them had. Here's an example of the songs I'm talking about...

Oingo Boingo - Heard Somebody Cry
English Beat - Mirror In The Bathroom
Psychedelic Furs - Danger
Icehouse - Electric Blue
Romeo Void - Girl In Trouble (Hands Down one of the best songs of the 80's)
The Waterboys - A Girl Called Johnny
Boy Meets Girl - Waiting For A Star To Fall (I Know Not New Wave! But a great guilty pleasure nontheless)
Frozen Ghost - Should I See
Foreigner - Urgent (I'm gonna say it...This was the closest Foreigner ever came to recording a new wave song, with "that was yesterday" coming in at a close second")

There's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. What are some of your favorite new wave or 80's pop songs with saxophones in them?

P.S. I was just joking about Foreigner singing new wave[;)]

As far as '80s pop goes, the biggest, fattest sax hook belongs to:

"The One You Love" by Glenn Frey.

"Ricochet Days" by Modern English has great demented sax playing that reminds me of the Furs.

.. that was going to be my suggestion. Spandau and Duran both had lots of frequent Sax in the 80's ;-)
