Summer New Wave songs

Postby Branding Iron » Tue Jul 20, 2010 2:05 am

I'm heading to the beach in a couple of weeks and I'm loadin' up the Ipod. I'd like to pick your collective New Wave brains on what you consider New Wave songs that are made for the summertime? Not necessarily songs that remind of you past summers. I've got a ton of those that take me back to many great summers in the 80s. Here's a short list off the top of my head of what I'm thinking of:

Belle Stars - Iko Iko
Amazulu - Montego Bay
The Flirts - On the Beach
The Flirts - Surf's Up
Tom Tom Club - Under the Boardwalk
The English Beat (practically anything)
UB40 (practically anything)

These turned up in a search of this site:
Botto - I Wanna Be a Lifeguard
Blondie - The Tide Is High
Simple Minds - Someone, Somewhere (In Summertime)
Bananarama - Cruel Summer
B-52's - Summer Of Love
Stranglers - Always the Sun
General Public - Hot You're Cool

Alot of the ska from back then (Selector, The Specials) but I don't know if you would consider this New Wave.[8D]

Rain in the Summertime The Alarm
Summer Love APB
Sound of Summer The Candidates
Summer Blink Cocteau Twins
Summer Spies Fatal Charm
Long Hot Summer Style Council
Summer Rain U2

Not a new wave song but Girls in Their Summer Clothes by Bruce Springsteen is a great summer song. You can visualize every word in that song.

These are excellent! [:p] Thanks everyone. I have most of these, just have trouble remembering them in my advancing years and without going through my complete collection.

This is a fun topic. Hope the compilations keep comin'.

Barracudas - Summer Fun
The Undertones version of Here Comes the Summer
Oxo - My Ride

I can't wait for this thread to explode into a brawl when someone mentions a certain song about traversing rays of light.
