ha ha,
that Partridge Family album makes me remember the DIY spirit of radio back in the day. I didn't own that album, but I had a radio show on KAOS FM (college radio station out of Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA). I did a punk show with a friend. This was when I had first discovered punk--Youth Brigade, Naked Raygun, Crass, 45 Grave, etc. There was a Partridge Family album lying around, and occasionally we slipped in a song, just to get everyone riled up. Sure enough, some kid would call in to complain, everytime! But I thought that stuff was kind of cool.

LOL... what a great thread! To this day I thought I was the only dork to have the Partridge Family as my first music purchase! Think I still have the cassette buried away somewhere.

My first NW purchase was probably Cars - Candy-O.

The first one I got with my own money: I think it's the score for [i]A Clockwork Orange[/i]. I recall the record didn't have some of the extra cuts the CD release has... it was all mainly the warped excerpts of the classical stuff. This was also one of my first CDs.

My first new wave album that I bought was Deep Sea Skiving by Bananarama. I really loved Shy Boy and He was really saying something. I rememeber I had saved my money for weeks. Once I finally got the money, it was hard to locate the album. I lived in Seattle at the time and couldn't find it anywhere. I finally got it when I visted my older brother in Oregon!

The first LP given to me was "Favorites for Tiny Tots". I still have it, scratches, food stains and all. The first LP I spent my own money on was "Village People's Greatest Hits". WTF was I thinking? (but then again, I was only 8...) I made up for that faux pau by buying "Back in Black" a couple of months later.

First LP I ever bought was Gerry Rafferty's "City to City." I was like 7, and I got it because we share a last name. You know, those great reasons kids buy records. We may not be related -- I'm sure that probably broke my seven-year-old heart -- but I'm glad I got it. "Right Down the Line" remains a favorite of mine to this day.

First new wave LP was the first Undertones record, a gift from my brother. We shared a hometown. The Undertones, I mean. Well, I shared a hometown with my brother, too.

I remember receiving The Beatles Second album as the first real non-kid record I got. I bought tons of 45s and listened to my older sister's LPs for a long time. The first LP I really sought out for me would have to be Todd Rundgren's A Wizard/A True Star and the second Roxy Music LP, For Your Pleasure. I kind of slid into new wave - maybe the Cars first being the first of my New Wave collection.

In my early teens I only bought 8-Track tapes and I have to believe the first one I bought was Bad Company's "Bad Co." which was played on a rinky dink stereo shared with my brother and sister.

A few years later (at 16 when I started working and earning my own money) I bought my own stereo and I think the first album I bought was The Who's "Who's Next".

The first New Wave album I bought was U2's "War" after I heard a radio broadcast of their Red Rocks concert waaaaaaay back in 84. Still have the cassette tape I made of the show, too! [8D]

My first CD was Madonna's Ray Of Light and my first (and only LP) is Joy Division's Substance. I spent 50 pesos in it... which for me was a lot but I thought it was worth of it.

My first album had to be a Partridge Family album.
My first new wave record was "Turning Japanese" by the vapors or Soft Cell "Tainted Love".
I don't remember the first album.

My first 2 45's were "Born to be alive" and Whip it" bought at the now defunct Ayr-Way department store. They had a DJ in a Dj booth in their record department, playing all kinds of top 40 crap, looking like a jackass with his Greg Brady 'do and shades. That was probably the highlight of his life, poor bastard. Ahhh, the memories of childhood.
