Just wanted to know how many people on this site are fans of this band? I've been a fan ever since hearing their song "Sometimes" back in 1987. I own all their albums, and think their recent albums "Nightbird and Light At The End Of The World" are on par with the greatness of what they were putting out in the late 80's/early 90's. They also appear to have gained some popularity in the past year or so with their 1994 hit "Always" appearing as the soundtrack to the Adult Swim online video game "Robot Unicorn". Check out the song's video on youtube, and you'll see just how popular it's become over the past year.

Here in NY, WLIR first played Who Needs Love Like That, which I thought was alright, but then when they started playing the second single, Oh L'Amour, I felt like it was the return of the great synthpop sound I'd loved in the earlier part of the 80s, which so many artists had given up on. I became obsessed with their stuff after that. But then after the Abba-esque album, by the mid-90s, I sort of needed a break from them and found their music was just not as unique as it had been (I definitely had 'new wave' fatigue at that point). I continued to buy their stuff, but my tastes in music moved to much more big city club hard house/tribal etc.

Andy Bell's first solo album resparked my appreciation of their stuff, along with my nostalgia for 80s sounds this past decade, so I've been listening to more of their recordings from the 90s and 2000s lately.

I used to collect their vinyls (have both XL12s), but lost interest around Loveboat. I like some of the singles after that, but not enough to buy it unless it was really cheap.

Come to think of it, I rarely put any of their CDs on to listen to anymore.

The last album I was interested in from Erasure was "I Say I Say I Say". After that, I liked a track here or there but just not really into any album as a whole. They just got really predictable and that's not really a bad thing. Even Andy Bell's solo stuff sounds like Erasure. [:)]

I was into them up until the 4th album. They made some great songs and I have fond memories of seeing them at the Heaven nightclub in London just after the release of their first single when most of Depeche Mode were in the audience (minus Dave Gahan I think). I also bought the limited edition second 12" of their second single 'Heavenly Action' at a Sunday Market stall. It is probably the most valuable record, that I know of, as it was listed in Record Collector in the early 90s at £120. I was offerred £60 for it by a shop in London which I was tempted to take up but declined and now it sits in the loft with the rest of my stupidly large record collection.

Lucky you to grab the L12 of Heavenly Action. I managed to snag a copy of L12 Who Needs Love, but since it was from a club, the cover was kind of bashed. The vinyl itself was still very good, though.

BTW, the first time I started paying attention to Erasure was when I heard Chains of Love on the radio. I thought it sounded a lot like Moyet/Yazoo, although I knew it wasn't. Bought a few singles here and there. I saw Chorus 12" at the store when it came out, but passed on it. Heard it at a club, and was blown away. Bought the 12" after that, and all the new 12" after that . Late in 1992, a chick who was into them got me into collecting their back catalogue.

Around 1996, I scored a jackpot at a used record store, where someone dumped their collection, which was in mint condition. It wasn't complete, but I filled in everything from Sometimes -> Star, although no L12 of Star , all of which were UK, and none of those stinky Intercord re-re-repressings . Paid about $5 for each 12".

I thought Nightbird was a pleasant light synthpop album. So was Light at the end of the world.

I love Erasure! Although they had awful albums ("Other people's songs", "Loveboat") I have always found songs that have become my all-time favorites:

If you think "Other people's songs" and "Loveboat" are awful, then why does your list of favorite erasure songs have tracks from both of those albums? As a true Erasure fan, I apprciate all their albums, some more then others

Well, simply because IMHO even these two really bad albums contain at least a song or two which I love (or at least like). I would call myself a huge fan but even then I do not have to like everything.

I have a large amount of their 12" releases on vinyl and most of their albums. I don't listen to them as much as I would like too. I agree with Qbertqubes, that they need to release another singles box set.

Other Peoples Songs was an excellent album. Most people who don't like it, don't like their take on the songs they covered. Their version of Video Killed The Radio Star is unique with a computer singing the vocals instead of Andy. I like Loveboat.
