it's christmas time--the Band-Aid 12" mix.

Just curious as to what everyone thinks of the 12" mix of Do They Know It's Christmas, which never gets included on any holiday compilations, while the original mix does.

I've always loved the slight 'remix' of the track and the inclusion of all the spoken messages in the middle. While I appreciate the way the verse is actually stripped down so that only one person is soloing at a time and you get to really hear their parts clearly, I would have preferred it if the dueting harmonies had been kept in place. And finally, the one thing about this mix that I can't stand and never understood is that AWFUL industrial grinding sound they use to segue to the spoken messages. Whose idea was that in a CHRISTMAS song? Absolutely heinous.

I love the 12" mix because that was the first time I heard the non-singing voice of some of my favorite 80's bands. "And me too Keren" is heavenly amongst all of the male voices that speak. What always trips me out though when I hear this version is they all say Happy Christmas. We're so used to hearing Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year here in the US. I guess that's how they say it in the England. Bowie sounds like the mythical voice from above and it's like they freeze the song so you can get that affect. Paul McCartney is kind of funny with "zip" thing. The Big Country guys sound so Scottish (RIP Stuart). I pull this track to listen to every Christmas and I love watching the documentary that I have on it.

what a scrooge. That attitude negates ANY good he did by creating it. And quite frankly, you can't even compare the beauty of Do They Know It's Christmas to the absolute sappy cheesiness of We Are the World. And personally, I always thought the song was much more Midge Ure than it was Bob Geldof.

I've been torturing my family with it since Thanksgiving. Every year I do. I have the 12" LP of it, with the original on one side and the remix/extended on the other. I think It is a great track personally.

I had to grow up with my sis blasting the frikin Andy Williams Christmas album at 6 am every day from Thanksgiving on. That's torture!

Given the egos involved and the short amount of time he had, it's amazing that Geldoff accomplished what he did.
