Trip Shakespeare is by far my favorite obscure band. They had two major label releases, but did not move the appropriate number of units. Two of the members went on to form Semisonic, but could not hold a candle to the magic that was Trip Shakespeare.

Don't know if anyone here is familiar with them or not, but I like almost everything by Music for Pleasure. I know next to nothing about them and I've had no luck turning up anything online, but both lp's and most of the singles are excellent.

I have the Girls At Our Best! CD comp (LP and singles) plus the Peel Sessions vinyl. Great stuff. I'm ashamed to admit that I only got turned onto them in hte last few years, but I've made up for it since!
"Nowhere Fast" is a great song.

even though Bill Nelson has been so prolific, I'd definately consider him obscure just because most people have never heard of him. I got into his mid-to-late 80's stuff in college, such as his collaborations with Harold Budd, but nobody else
