mail order foiled by current customs issues?

Postby budaniel » Tue Feb 01, 2011 4:41 am

anyone else from the U.S. order a lot of CDs and vinyl from England? For the past two months or so, everything has been crawling here, apparently because of new strict U.S. rules about packages going through customs or something. I've got so many gems I'm waiting for impatiently!!!

If you get your imported music in a timely manner the terrorists will have won.

I relish coming home from work every day and finding at least one or two treasures I've been wanting for years in my mailbox--but now I've got a huge backlog of stuff I'm waiting for, so it ends up beings days with no packages!!! ARGH!

Yep, I ordered stuff in early December and received most of it mid January of 2011. I've also ordered stuff late December and early January and have checked my mail box everyday and have been disappointed. Domestic packages are fine though. One thing bad is a few of my early December packages have still not arrived. Frustrating to say the least.

In the past, the UK took about 1-2 weeks to the US. The other european countries took about 2-3 weeks max. Sigh.

Yep, I've been experiencing delayed shipments from overseas as well recently. A shipper in the UK told me they're having postal backlog problems there.

Is it from a customs change or the worst winter weather in decades in Europe?

Or more probably messing you about as there hasn't been any postal backlog for weeks.

Yeah, I bought a couple of blu-rays and CDs five weeks ago through UK Amazon. This wait is intolerable. I've never waited this long for anything from anywhere in the world.

They seem to all be pointing the finger at US Customs for the delay. I've gone as far as ask my local office to see if they can do anything and they said no. [8D] I'm getting people from France and Germany asking me to give them feedback but I can't do that because I haven't received my packages yet. Unfortunately, I can't tell them that cause I don't know enough French or German. [8D]

<p align="justify">It took a month to get some dvds from Italy and about 3 weeks to get a shipment of cds from England. You couldn't beat some of the prices they listed, so I'll go ahead and wait. Hey, at least, they arrived. I ordered something from San Diego once and it never arrived - post office lost it, they put it in the wrong mailbox, they never sent it, or whatever[}:)]

Things are starting to trickle in. My orders from late Dec 2010 and early Jan 2011 are arriving. We are looking at about 5 plus weeks for a package to get here from the UK. In the past it was a week or two.

What I am hearing is that no cargo (other than letters and printed
material) can travel on passenger planes into the USA. This means that all parcels since the end of November have been sent by surface mail i.e. ships which can take up to 6 weeks unfortunately. So if you guys order something from the UK, expect some guy in a row boat to deliver your package to you weeks later.
