My thoughts exactly. This movie already left out a lot from the book, can't imagine the U.S. version being anywhere near as good.

It would have had more hope as a Coen Brothers movie (this even reminded me of bits of Fargo), but maybe David Fincher can pull something off.

Saw these recently:

"Suck" - a Canadian (why do I repeatedly torture myself with made in Canada films?) movie about a so-so rock band that become famous when they get turned in vampires one by one. Filmed on a budget of $3.5 million and with cameos by Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Carole Pope (Rough Trade), Henry Rollins and others. Malcolm McDowell plays Eddie Van Helsig and Dave Foley (Kids In The Hall) has a minor role as well.

A couple of laugh out loud scenes, like when Jessica Paré (sizzling hot bass player) sticks a straw in the neck of a convenience store worker and sucks him dry. Also when Van Helsig is crossing the border from Canada back to the USA...the customs officer asks him if he has any weapons in his car he says "all kinds of weapons" and the officer smiles and says "welcome home".

There's been a lot of hype about this film becoming a cult classic, but I don't know, it was kind of flat on the whole. My favourite part of the movie was seeing Moby (in a cameo as the lead singer of a Buffalo metal band) getting eaten and dismembered.

"Max Manus" - a Norwegian film about the Norwegian resistance during WWII. Max Manus was apparently a very successful and famous saboteur, especially for bombing a number of ships at Oslo harbor. I really enjoyed this film, although I found the subtitles hard to read at times.

"Last Night" - another Canadian film...a famous award winning one...from 1998. For the past couple of months, everyone has known that the world is going to end at midnight on this day, and although they never explain why, the sun seems to be glowing brighter and there is a giant flash of light at the end. Maybe the sun goes super nova or something.

This movie stars Sandra Oh (boot to the face, can't stand her) which is why I never watched the whole thing before. Overall I think it is a pretty boring movie, following the choices several characters make as to how they will spend their last night on earth. However, if the intention is to put you in a reflective mood about what YOU would do and make you think, "hey, if that's what I'd do, why am I waiting for the last night, why don't I do it now?", then I think it was pretty successful.

Inglourious Basterds - a fun movie

9 - an interesting cartoon with a man vs machine theme that Terminator had.

Edge of Darkness - good movie with Mel Gibson.

Time Traveler's Wife - a decent chick flick slash fantasy movie. Watching this movie I remembered a quote from Knocked Up: "If any of us get laid tonight, it's because of Eric Bana in "Munich." [:D]

Scott Pilgrim vs the World rocks!

Caught me by surprise and is one of the best films I've seen in a long time. Fast, fun, and twisted.

Exact same for me, completely surprised. When I saw the previews thought it looked ridiculous. Not the best film but waaaaay better than I thought.

Something tells me Tyler will kill Dennis someday. Man, a whole lot of messed up stuff in that movie. Favorite line Kirk (female): "I'm really a people person" when explaining she stabbed Dennis. nice.
