I'm not quite sure what people ARE allowed to discuss on this message board anymore. It's like a bad cyber version of every snobby clique in any John Hughes film. Just to be clear, aren't most people on this board adults?

Yes, and most adults have a sense of humor. It's fine that a lot of you have amazingly appalling taste in music ... whatever. We can't all have a clue. But to expect to be able to sing the praises of such utter shit as Toyah and T'Pau without being mocked is asking way too much. Maybe you'd be more at home at the boringsissycrapoutpost? Or maybe at the ZZZone with the rest of the crybabies?

I must hang around with the wrong adults...the ones I interact with are, at times, cliquish. They express opinions that some may find distasteful, and sometimes they're just flat out insulting with their snobbery.

Can I hang out with you and experience what life should be like?
I completely agree with this. It's the reason I rarely post here anymore (and probably why there is so little traffic on this site). Seems like there is a group of six or eight people who have decided this board is their own little clubhouse and practically assault anyone that doesn't fit their niche. While I've never been the victim, I've certainly cringed on behalf of others. Anymore, this forum is just a dark alley where the usual suspects are waiting around for someone to post so they can jump down their throats for having bad taste or violating some rule of discussion. Too bad, too, as this was once a fun place and a great resource. Oh well, de-evolution is real, I guess.

I also stopped posting ages ago, being called a "cunt" for liking Kim Wilde was amusing but was done in 1999 to my face, not by someone in a bedsit with a laptop.

This forum is a great place to find out forthcoming remasters etc

Boo fucking hoo. Shouldn't you be scrapbooking or at a quilting class somewhere, grandma?

Btw ... who are the six or eight usual suspects of whom you speak? I'd hate to miss anyone when sending out the Secret Bully Club newsletter.

Just because you can say whatever you want doesn't mean you don't have to take responsibility for it. Many of the members here are very passionate and discriminating about music. I think it's one of the things that makes this place special. If a poster wants to not only ignore that but actually goad the longtime NWO veterans into a retaliatory response by posting crap about how underrated Huey Lewis really is or why Corey Hart doesn't get the respect he deserves, then they get what they get.

And then there are those that use this place to indulge their strange obsessions by posting almost exclusively, repeatedly and singularly about the same fringe artist over and over and over. We get it already. You've got a problem but this is not the Mark David Chapman Stalker Outpost.

Perhaps it seems that there is "so little traffic on this site" because lunkheads have ruined it with lame postings and indulgent rants about insignificant artists. In the meantime, New Wave luminaries like Elvis Costello, etc., go largely ignored in favor of forgettable pop/schmaltz bands and songs that are played out and lost their vitality decades ago.

"New Wave" was originally a backlash against mainstream, flaccid, pop crap. Is should be no surprise that the purists here would react any differently when presented with the same.

It had to be six or eight, not five or seven, or even four or six.

Funny, I rarely post here anymore because like most of the world, it's turned into a whiny, milquetoasty bastion of political correctness. Everything is good, everything is wonderful. Oh, and for the record, many of the songs I've posted in the Obscure 80s section have been panned, ridiculed, or just ignored. Big deal. Not once have I had to reach for a tissue...

I was going to join until I read the rules:

Behave like an adult.

Stay on topic.

Don't start arguments.

Don't respond to people starting arguments. Report posts to moderators instead. Ignore aggressive posts and move on.

Don't insult forum members, singers or other public figures based on appearance.

DON'T use the word 'stan' or otherwise attempt to belittle reasonable points made by reasonable fans.

If your post amounts to little or no more than an image your post may be deleted, you may be banned and your account may be deleted.

Please write in fully formed English sentences. This means capitalising the first letter of a sentence and the names of artists and song titles, putting a full stop at the end of a sentence, and so on. Posts not written in full English may be deleted. Guess you've been pre-banned, Rockwood.

Don't use textspeak or webspeak. This means things like U, UR, LMAO, LOL, 'meh', wot and so on.

We have a no smiley rule - posts containing comments like 'Insert sad smiley here' (or text-based emoticons) will be deleted.

Abbreviations (like GA for Girls Aloud, or IWS for 'I'm With Stupid') can be confusing - please write artist and song titles in full.

If you have registered to talk about one artist only - or if you're street-teaming or spamming - use the Links, Spam & Street Team Cuntery forum, or don't post at all.

If there's an active thread about an artist, try not to start a new one unless your contribution informs us of a huge and explosive new development.

Posts of the 'I agree!' / 'So true!' variety are pointless. Only post things if you have something to add!

Do not censor your swear words.

Do not use words like 'bitch', 'slag', 'cunt' and 'slut' to describe women.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I couldn't abide by any of that, with the exception of the smilie one, so I'll stay put.
