A good song, but it doesn't impact me the way it seems to impact others. I guess I'm a few bricks short of a load!

I'm thankful that i have watched the movie "Let Me In", otherwise i wouldn't have discovered this wonderful song. Do all their songs sound like "Doot Doot"? If yes, then it must be a really good album. They are quite similar to Enya too, because the song "Doot Doot" is mostly instrumental with only a few lyrics.

They have two great albums with many well known hits although Doot Doot is different then the other songs as there is more vocals

Same here. I listen to it over and over again. Would love to hear interpretations of what it means. p.s. The lyrics sites render the line as "Now we go doot doot," but I hear "How we go doot doot."

Alright I finally took the time to track this one down and give it a listen. It ain't the worst four minutes of music to ever be committed to tape, but what NWOers see in it in other than it sounds '80s' is beyond me. Not, to put it mildly, exactly timeless. And as this is my first time hearing it so I can't even appreciate it in a notsalgic I-can't-help-but-like-it-cos-I-was-8-at-the-time sort of way.

Freur's Doot Doot is one of my favorite New Wave songs. Please read the following, as my explanation as to why I like it.

I was born in October of 1960 and up until I was 7 and a half, my exposure to music was as follows:

Dad's music, which consisted of Perry Como, Eddie Fisher, Al Jolson and similar crooners of the like.

WNUF which was a Big Band & Polka radio station that was always on during dinner.

All the various TV theme songs and commercial jingles (both radio & TV).

Religious music from church.

The 60's Motown & early Beatles 45's my babysitter gave to my brothers and I.

When I turned 7 and a half, I received a Sony Transistor Radio. Suddenly I was able to find music that wasn't someone else's that I had to either tolerate, endure or suffer through.. I was at the mercy of AM radio station programmers, but at least I could change the station when a song I didn't care for came on.

Through the years, I listened to the psychedelic rock of the late 60's through the disco 70's and all the variations in between on that transistor radio.

I believe that the music I listened to, in the order I was exposed to, contributed to my taste in music. I was very big into heavy keyboard / synthesizer & unusual structured songs. For example;

I'm curious to learn what music someone who doesn't like Doot Doot by Freur was exposed to in their formative years. Are there any songs in the list above that are shared by those who favor Doot Doot or those who have angst against it.


I used to get a kick whenever I heard a New Wave Band like the Smiths or XTC on the radio. Now I hear them in the grocery store and in restaurants.

A good read Jim. I can't specfifically respond to your questio because I do like Doot-Doot. I do also like several songs in your list. When I was really young, I think I gravitated to either straight toe-tapping pop, things that were kinda trippy, or orchestral stuff in various soft/loud epic sorta arrangements. ELO ticked off both those last two boxes. A lot of new wave ticked off the first two. Doot-Doot is part of that middle type. Likely stuff like Echo and Bunnymen, some later grunge, even some Pat Metheny, and now British Sea Power fit (structurally at least) into the latter. I'm just now seeing a lot of threads of my classical piano training/upbringing in so e if the music I like. But that's another story.

I love Doot-Doot, and I also think Strawberry Letter 23 is one of the best songs of all time.
