DURAN DURAN STORM TO NO 1

I love this CD ! It's HOT ! And I haven't enjoyed their music since their 1st 3 albums. (I have listened to, but do not own, anything after [i]7 & RT[/i]. They went into a direction I did not care for. I'm not a full-fledged fan in that way, I guess). But THIS NEW CD is awesome ! It channels their 80s sound, with a modern update. Ronson is obviously a great pic for them. Some of the songs have a [i]Rio[/i] vibe, the bass is still catchy as heck, and Simon sounds far better than usual. It hasn't left my car CD player for 2 & 1/2 weeks. I can't get enough of it. I'm telling you, give it a fair listen; it's far superior to [i]RCM[/i] & [i]Astronaut[/i].

BTW it appears that Simon and Meatloaf are slowly morphing into one another. By the end of the decade they may be nearly indistinguishable:

It's a very good album from start to finish. Their best in a very long time. Mick Ronson and the band have made an album of very catchy songs. It's a shame that Andy Taylor wasn't on board.

I gravitate toward their more energetic stuff. I'm not a fan of ballads, although I like hearing Simon's voice at a lower register. I'll foward thru the ballads, and tuneless dirges like "Diamond in the Mind" and "Return to Now". The DD fans on the DD boards are all ga-ga over "The Man Who Stole a Leopard", but that track doesn't really grab me, altho it's kind of growing on me.
Keep listening ! It's far better than [i]RCM[/i].

Mostly, I agree with ya. I wasn't planning to buy the record, but my brother bought tickets on Craigslist without telling me and suddenly I had to hustle to learn the new repertoire. AYNIN is slightly hollow, but it's also catchy as heck if you're looking for a good, poppy listen from a classic band with a [i]very[/i] familiar singer. Quite heartening, really.

The title track's a decent first single - although the big saw-wavey synth opening really bugs me - but elsewhere, the uptempo stuff is the most engaging pop they've written in years. The sound is good. Le Bon sounds refreshed. Any of Girl Panic!, Too Bad You're So Beautiful (terrific verse vocal melody there), Runway Runaway or Being Followed would make fine radio/video tunes that'd capture the old-school listener.

I don't know where you stand now on The Man Who Stole A Leopard, KYYX4ever - it sounds like you've been warming to it - but it's a very solid, ambitious tune. Sure, its Chauffeur/So Red The Rose genesis is obvious as hell, but that hasn't spoiled it for me. Nice to hear Duran stretch out and do something arty. AYINN is easily my favourite Duran product since - at least - Nick's Devils LP with Stephen Duffy.

Caught the Duran Duran Toronto concert Monday night (April 25th). It was a club date (same place I've seen PiL, Killing Joke and OMD over the past year), and the chance to watch them in relative intimacy (cap. approx 1000) was a rare treat. The North American tour wraps in Boston tonight (April 27th), but hopefully everyone who trundled out to catch a show had as good a time as I did.

Ive seen DD 3 times, and every time, they were amazing. I'd go see them again too. only beef i have is their exhorbant ticket prices.
