Plagiarism, we had a vote a long time ago and shot down the idea of avatars. Nobody wants to see pics of people's kids (or grandkids [:D]) ... and believe me, nobody wants to see the kind of images I would use if avatars ever do get activated. [}:)]

I didn't know that there was a vote, so I rescind my request. That said, I wouldn't be one to put up pictures of myself of kids either. [}:)]

I gave up on using the native search feature long ago. I go to Google and search on

I don't mind low-tech sites. Fancy sites just take longer to download + render, and it doesn't really add much other than eyecandy.

Heh, you mean you don't want dark background pictures that remain fixed in place while you scroll through content?[:D]

<br>I think the site's pretty much fine. My only quibbles are that I'd like to have small avatar pictures and that Amazon MP3 widget at the top right sometimes bogs down my computer.
[/quote]
Yeah -- I do regret that the damn Amazon widget chews up resources if left unattended for too long. Kinda pathetic of them kind of like my lack of posts and 2011 music updates.[:o)]

Wow, just noticing there's 16 forums. So which to lose? Genre, Newstand and Interviews seem to mostly get discussed in general. Even Lists are mostly done in General. I can't see anyone missing Where Are They Now. Trivia doesn't have a lot of threads, but I can't see anyone wanting those gory long threads in General.

Thanks!! Ahh shit.. now I have to reach 2000 .. will take me another 5 years or so [V]

I'm happy with the site as it is. The forums are nice and quick to use.. though I would seriously like it to be 100% character based and green-screened.... really! [^]

Most of the Not Necessarily New Wave posts seem to be about the Vancouver Canucks for some inexplicable reason...maybe we should add a Canucks forum or change the name of NNNW.

I would request a Khanadian and Fleet Foxes forum, mutually exclusive of course.

I do not understand. "Upgrading it to use more web 2.0 features" doesn't mean "Make it look like myspace." Myspace came along before web 2.0 and has *always* had an absolutely horrible UI, which is a main reason that facebook's clean look and simple UI trounced them. Nobody is asking: "Please make the site look worse and be harder to use."

To me, the essence of conservatism is "every change is necessarily a change for the worse, so the status quo must be conserved at all cost." That is simply not true. I doubt there are too many web developers out there that would look at this site and say, "There is absolutely NO room for improvement. It's impossible to make better." For example, someone mentioned improving the search. The navigation could be improved, too: it's hard to get from point A to point B in many cases. I can't figure out how to get from the home page to the list of compilation songs. The graphics and color scheme could be a little easier on the eye.

I will use this site no matter what it looks like. I love it. But I do think if Mike has some time, it would be nice if he could tweak it a litt.e

To be honest I don't know what Web 2.0 is and I don't really care. It's just that there's a tendency to make things more complicated than they need to be. I didn't say there's no room for improvement. My point was simply to fix's what's broke and leave what ain't.

You are pleading your case to a forum thats about being stuck and reminiscing about the past and despising anything that is new. If they had their way, some of those posters will demand that the forum should be in BBS format and requiring dial up just to log in so they can be in nostalgia-ville

Sure, it may be not as flashy as others but it does the job and that's all which is required out of it. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
