Speaking of 'is this even a fucking song,' "Doot-Doot" is garbage. I want to bitch-slap every single poster on here who holds that piece of crap up like new wave royalty.

At least pick something of theirs that had something resembling a melody, like "Riders in the Night" or whatever.

I think Blister In The Sun by The Violent Femmes is the worst song I've ever heard.

This song is listed in the 1001 Songs You Must Hear Before You Die book, which I have a hard time understanding. According to the book it's the Banshees' big-up to Chinese folks living in London who have been hassled by racists... so they do so by introducing the song with a laughable cod-Asian xylophone riff? Overall I don't think it's a terrible song but for an example of good early Banshees why not 'Israel' or 'Happy House' or 'Christine'? Far better songs.

Which reminds me of another band who were popular there, Seona Dancing. Now that the singer has become famous, there's no need for all this revisionism about how great More to Lose and Bitter Heart are; Gervais does a second-rate Gary Numan impression and the music is dreary.

Anyway, enough of that diversion and back on topic. Red Box - For America, for some reason very popular with one of the most annoying choruses in all of 80s music; every time I hear it, it sets my teeth on edge and just want to have all concerned with it shot.
