As opposed to all of Toyah's classic smash hits after "Echo Beach", which stopped at [did not chart] on the UK singles chart.

She's had 20 odd single releases with 7 top 25's. [b]TWO[/b] were top five (hardly "several"). She had a couple of top 25's. At least half of her singles catalogue either did not chart or barely hit the top 50. So yes its a common occurrence. [:)]

Doubt if Perry/Ga Ga have ever heard of her, as it is with the majority of people who don't frequent this message board. However, NOT touching base in America was a great move on her part which I truly appreciate.

It's A Mystery(her biggest)
I Want To Be Free
Thunder In The Mountains
...and one more than two is several in my book..
there were no singles after "Echo" so,like, DUH!

She's right. Toya has sold 2 certified Silver albums (60k)
and a certified Gold album (100k) in the UK. Over here in
the states however, she's only sold about... Toyah? How many
of her records do you own?

All kidding aside (I hope you're not taking this serious),
how many records you've sold or how high you've charted
are not the only indicators of success.

I have to agree with djcraig about your comment "the Katy
Perry/GaGa world we live in". If you believe this to be true,
you should keep such thoughts and ideas to yourself as you
seem to enjoy all the attention these comments create. I
will no longer bother with your insanity.

I used to get a kick whenever I heard a New Wave Band like the Smiths or XTC on the radio. Now I hear them in the grocery store and in restaurants.

as a collector,I's like to know of even one physical single that was issued after "Echo Beach"...curious

Discogs has two physical releases after echo.

My mistake on Thunder, it was I want to be free that reached 8. Doesnt matter though, its still not several...as per your own criteria.[:)]

Its also worth noting that the British public are known for putting songs like the following (and worse) at number one...so Toyah's minor achievements should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

hmmmm.I suppose that's why the BBC broadcast a Christmas Eve show of hers in the early 80's to an audience of 12 million...
don't recall Black Lace being offered a similar spot

I actually own the 12 inch single for "Moonlight Dancing" and forgot about it;
the Editions EG releases and the other 'indie' labels that followed, I never regarded as 'actual records",don't tell anyone...
she should have stayed with Safari,this was a case of the artist being more popular on the indie label and then upon jumping to CBS UK with "Minx" and an image adjustment,discovering that this was a wrong move(although there was a lot of Minx I liked, the best track was actually 'Snow Covers The Kiss" ,a non album B side during her time at CBS UK
