Hi!!

I wanted to share something special for my 100th post, but since someone requested Fiat Lux, I really can't think of too many bands more special than them.

80's Synthpop Fan's request made my day, because, while I've loved Fiat Lux for decades, I never knew about the album! I had stumbled upon the rare tracks from the unreleased album but i had no idea that was a tracklisting, art, etc! This made my day. I organized my library and grabbed a few mp3s I was missing so I could create what I think is the most comprehensive Fiat Lux collection out there. It starts with the album, then the non album tracks, then the 7"s, Extendeds, dubs and instrumental. It's 30 tracks! Here's the tracklist...

1. The Moment
2. Breaking The Boundary
3. Blue Emotion
4. Embers
5. Splurge
6. Secrets
7. No More Proud
8. Aqua Vitae
9. Photography
10. Solitary Lovers
---BONUS TRACKS---
11. Feels Like Winter Again
12. (What Is) This Illness
13. Comfortable Life
14. Three's Company
15. Sally Free And Easy
16. House Of Thorns
17. Sleepless Nightmare
18. Blue Emotion (7" Version)
19. Solitary Lovers (7" Version)
20. No More Proud (7" Version)
21. Aqua Vitae (Extended Version)
22. Photography (Extended Version)
23. Solitary Lovers (Extended Version)
24. Three's Company (Extended Version)
25. House Of Thorns (Extended Version)
26. Blue Emotion (Extended Version)
27. Sleepless Nightmare (Extended Version)
28. No More Proud (Proud Mix)
29. No More Proud (Another Dub Mix)
30. Aqua Vitae (Instrumental)

Before I did all this, my Fiat Lux library was 21 tracks long and I thought THAT was a lot. Hope you guys enjoy. Fiat Lux were amazing, and this deserves to be released by someone on a beautiful remastered 2CD set.

*One thing I'm concerned about is I see the album version of Aqua Vitae is listed at 4:52 in certain places, in others its listed as 4:00 version which I have. The extended version of Aqua Vitae goes to 5:17, leading me to think the 4:00 minute version might be the 7" and the album version is missing... I could be wrong, it could be a typo... It's not my favorite Fiat Lux track, so I'm not terribly concerned, but for completists sake, if anyone knows the answer to this...

Each track comes with it's own picture. This was fun to do! I gave up sleep to do this, and I'm not even a little bit sorry! I hope you all like!

For some reason it won't upload as a whole on Mediafire, so i split it into the album and the 20 bonus tracks.

Enjoy!

Thanks Dominik! This is really a complete Fiat Lux discography! A fantastic 100th share of one of the most underestimated groups of 80s synthpop!
You too made my day!
Thanks, thanks, thanks

In answer to the above question Dominik500. The CD I have (which was sent very kindly by another NWO member) has a longer version of Aqua Vitae which has a longer intro and is around the 4'50 running time. I believe the CD I have is from the master tapes so they must have done a 'new' mix for the album.
It's great to see another fan of Fiat Lux here and there really does need to be a 2 CD remaster released at some point.
I saw them 6 times over their 'short' career and bought everything they ever did and collected as many cuttings, photos that I ever saw.
Shame they didn't achieve the success they deserved.
There is also a live concert and session the BBC broadcast at the time. Not sure if they are 'out' there somewhere!!!
There is also a website called 'Hired History' which is full of info (I guess you probably know about the last two things though).

GJH, could you upload the Aqua Vitae (4:50) version? I'm so jealous you got to see them live. Do you have the BBC broadcasts? They were floating around, I found a thread where someone shared them, and i just resurrected it. Fingers crossed!

Thanks!!

Dominik

Thank you for this amazing share, Dominik500! I LOVE Fiat Lux, it's truly a shame they weren't more popular at the time!! Probably one of the most underrated New Wave bands of the time, with the most number of great singles!! I haven't seen one 80's compilation with a single song by Fiat Lux on it! :(

Hi

Not been on the site for a while. Always good to come back on and see some Fiat Lux discussion.

Had the pleasure of having a chat with Ian Nelson, about 2002 at Nelsonica, the Bill Nelson convention. I was bemoaning that the album (meaning hired history) had never been released on CD. I was amazed when Ian informed me that there was a full album ( Fac Ut Vivas) that had been leaked. I got the distinct impression that the album had been leaked by the band themselves after they got dropped, hence the master tape quality.

Considering the amount of crap that has been released on CD its criminal that nothing is available on CD by Fiat Lux and if I had the skill and know how I would try and licence the bloody tracks myself and release them. Over the years I have lobbied Cherry Red records to no avail. Might have another go via the Bill Nelson forum as Cherry Red are re releasing Bill's stuff, maybe he could put a word in.

BTW the version of Aqua Vitae on my copy of Fac Ut vivas is the 4:52 version. The 4:00 version is on hired history which I assume is 7 inch and 12 inch running at 5:27. Hope this helps.

Hi,

Dave S here (from HiredHistory.co.uk website), I've neglected the website for a few years now (sorry), but life gets in the way at times.

In the 'SONGS A-Z' section of my site you'll see all the versions I'm aware of regarding Aqua Vitae:-

[3:53] 7" Version - b-side of Photography 7", Hired History lp
[5:13] 12" Extended Remix - b-side of both Photography 12" and Secrets 12"
[4:48] Album Version - Unreleased
[4:02] Instrumental Version - Unreleased

There are four known versions of Aqua Vitae of which only two have been officially released. The version on Hired History incorrectly states it is the Extended Remix, it is in fact the 7".

I can also confirm that Cherry Red did make enquiries about releasing something as far back as 2009. I only know this as they contacted me initially although asked me not to say anything about it at the time. I think after 4 silent years it's safe enough for me not to have to keep quiet anymore. I did chase them up as to any progress in 2011 but I got no response so assumed the worst. I was under the impression that either FL's tapes were 'lost' (Universal own the recordings now) or licencing costs did not make it feasible.

Other than Cherry Red would the only other label able to take on a CD release be Edsal? I'd love to get a campaign going to get their music out.

Great idea Dave. If you need any help with a campaign, I would love to help in anyway I can. As you probably know I have lots of stuff on them.

I've started a thread on the 'William's World' Bill Nelson forum and Bill kindly replied.

Look for the Fiat Lux thread.

http://www.billnelson.com/html/park/inn.php

I've also asked for this in the Cherry Red suggestion box. Maybe if we all did this it might make a difference.
