Can you name a fourth generation cover song?

For example, group A records a song. Group B records a version of Group A's song. Group C listens to group B's version and records a version of the song. Group D records Group C's version of the song. The versions change slightly(style, words, arrangement, etc.) so you can tell they are not just different covers of the original.

Example:

Always Something There to Remind Me:

Group A: Burt Bacharach/Lou Johnson
Group B: Naked Eyes
Group C: The Hippos + others
Group D: None

I think I have finally found a 4th generation cover. I want to see if you experts can think of one.

"Everlasting Love"

1967--Robert Knight
1974--Carl Carlton

The same song was also a #1 UK hit in 1968 for a group named Love Affair.

I think Sandra did a cover of this in the late 80s.

Well, I find it hard to believe that you'd think Marilyn Manson's cover of "Tainted Love" wasn't based on Soft Cell's... I would venture to say on the Tainted Love tip you've got:

1 Gloria Jones
2 Soft Cell

3 Plenty of people have covered Soft Cel
