Missing Persons extended versions?

Postby agitatedstate » Thu Oct 03, 2013 9:28 am

Do any legitimate remixes of their singles exist? Or even any illegitimate ones that are decent?

I think the only official remixes were of "Give" and "I Can't Think About Dancing."

There was a remix of "Words" from the DJ-only remix service The Edge (Hot Tracks).

And I think a couple of those horrible Cleopatra re-recording/remixes.

I own the Dance Mix of "Give" on vinyl, but it will be a while before I can digitize it.

Give - Dance Mix is on one of The Best Of The Missing Persons

Give (Dance Mix), well worth the 1.29. There were plenty of missed opportunities from Rhyme & Reason and Color In Your Life, as both albums had great club potential. I don't think Capitol really cared about getting anymore exposure for a band they felt was passed its expiration date.

I have Words (Hot Tracks). If you're still interested shoot me a message and I'll get it to you. It's from HT's The Edge series of 80s mixes, which was a hit or miss project...more miss than hit. Their work on Words was one of the better pieces, as it basically is just a clever extended edit of the original.

'Surrender Your Heart' the album version is 4.20 while the 7" single is 3.30. It goes without saying that the longer, the better.

also: on "classic masters" there is an alternate mix of "if only for the moment" which is longer, has a sort of classic remix beginning, and has some different synth stuff- it COULD be considered an "extended" version, though; just not an official one. it's pretty cute.

this album also has the 12" of "give" and "dancin'."

The 12" of I Can't Think About Dancin' is basically the album version drawn out by 30 seconds or so, very insipid. I think that was further evidence that Capitol had given up the band. The song deserved more than that. Arthur Baker should have been tapped to give the mix some percussion, some dub, and a couple of extra minutes. Surrender Your Heart would have been putty in the hands of Francois Kevorkian. But oh well, hindsight...

Whatever you do stay away from the Cleopatra "remixes". They go hand-in-hand with the AFOS "remixes" for putting Cleopatra's tiny bit of credo in the shitter.

Hey I found this post using Google. Years ago I had this version of Words by Missing Persons that I got from Napster or Limewire, I don't remember.

As you said its more like a an extended edit of the lp track with standard 32 beat intro, break and outro.

I'd love to have that if you got it. I've been working on this 80's mix for a few years. I've been DJ'ing since 1986 but wasn't as deep into New Wave (KROQ) as some of my friends were, but still enjoy it.

How about doing a remix project like there is for Fleetwood Mac with some members?

I'd be down for that.

Hey, it's a decent enough joke. Granted my reaction to the Fleetwood Mac post was OTT but then the request shouldn't have been posted on the forum in the first place and concerned about the potential about being picked up by the RIAA.

Since Mike has clarified the official position in regards to what can be posted in the sub-forum I'm cool.

Have a great Sunday! :)
