don't you forget about me was originally written
by him, but he turned it down. here is a version
that he sang later.

I think you meant to write the song was written for Idol, not by him.
Actually was written by Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff, and was shopped
around to a few bands/artists, all who turned it down, until, of course, Simple Minds recorded it.

I was aware of the Idol connection to this song through Forsey, but I always thought it was intended for Bryan Ferry, who turned it down. Funny, anyone turning down a quality song with massive hit appeal and being the theme to a John Hughes film with the biggest actors of that time? Ferry could have used the US breakthrough for his solo career and I'm sure Idol would have appreciated this $ong in his repertoire. I can hear both singing this very effectively. Oh well, 20/20. Without "Don't You..." Simple Minds would not have had the chance to break through in the US with Once Upon A Time.

Your not missing anything at 128 kbps. Just more red hots. No thanks. I happen to be one that can tell the difference on a good sound system. Plus good to have in lossless for remastering purposes.

I was able to download just fine (TY -1 for the nice up, BTW) But what downloaded was just "file" and I had to go and rename them and add the .mp3 extension, then they'd play. Weird. If you can DL try to change the name and add .mp3, might work for you. Cheers [;)]

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if anyone can list the other bands this song was offered to?

You never know if it's totally accurate, but Wikipedia suggests - Cy Curnin from The Fixx, Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol.

I just read about that on Wiki too, but for some reason I thought there were at least a few more bands the song was shopped around to. Maybe not.
