EAST QUOGUE, N.Y. (AP) — Laura Branigan, a Grammy-nominated pop singer best known for her 1982 platinum hit "Gloria," has died. She was 47.
Branigan died Thursday in her sleep at her home, said her manager, John Bowers. He would not disclose the cause, although her official Web site listed it as a brain aneurysm.

I saw a VH1 show on the 80s the other night, and they showed a clip of her video for "Gloria". Her songs were very much a part of the 80s, and she will be missed.

She had lots of good songs on her albums. Sorry to hear the news, and still so young at only 47. Always liked Self Control.

I never like to hear about people dying at such a young age - not being far from 47 myself, it's sad and scary.

Laura was no Kirsty McColl, but I will miss them both equally as 80's female singers. I always liked "Self Control" too, Grunch.

It's just really sad whenever someone we know from the 80's dies. I think we're all at that age where HEALTH seems to be more important than anything else in our lives.

It always makes my heart heavy when I hear of someone from my generation passing away. Was'nt a huge fan of hers but the song was definitely part of my landscape back in Brooklyn, in the 80's. Unbelievable.....

Laura did not originally do the song "Self Control". It was first done by an Italian disco performer by the name of Raff.
