Last week sometime, I was inspired, while sitting here listening to "Contact You," to try to find Shelia Brook, the lead singer of Fay Ray (and contact her). After Googles galore, I came upon this: http://www.turnstone.uk.com/history.html. I'd found her most current project, Turnstone. (For more: http://www.turnstone.uk.com/). I wrote up a comment and sent it over to her, hoping for the best. Well, I came home from work today and found, to my suprise, a reply from her.
The only thing I'd asked her is what happened to Fay Ray's second LP, which is said to have been locked away by Elektra. Here's what I got:
"Dear Nathaniel
Thanks you for the email. I am very happy to answer questions. The second LP
didn't happen because the band fell out but we had a wave of songs coming
through and did manage to record some of them but they were never released
by Electra. The songs were " I wish" (B side I think to Different Morning
released previously on Duff Records) Another Love Song, Under the Rain, See
me Too and Only Ones.
These songs do exists and were compiled for us on CD by someone in the U S
of A. I may be able to get the contact details so that you can contact him
and get copies of these songs over there if you want them. We are all in
contact with each other and all fall outs were smoothed over but not soon
enough for the band to continue - Johnny guitarist is a professor of Urban
Studies at Cardiff, Owen runs a record shop, Cob records in Bangor, North
Wales, Geoff works on the oil rigs and Tony is an actor. We are all friends
again but only me and Owen play regularly.
Love, Sheila"
Just though you guys would want to see that, pretty exciting to have found her!
