Dead Can Dance

Just got home tonight from seeing them perform in Boston. HOLY MOLY! That was an amazing concert!

I wish I could share the playlist here, but I'm more of a casual DCD fan, so I don't know all the songs. (Although, after tonight, that may all change.) They did play some beloved classics, judging by the audience's reaction. I did recognize half of the songs, and my heart nearly skipped a beat when they segued straight into "American Dreaming."

The Wind That Shakes The Barley
Saltarello
Yulunga (spirit dance)
and I know I'm missing a whole of other favorites here.

Brendan was charming, funny, and had a sort of delightful ease about him. Lisa was demure and composed, letting out a little bashful, flattered smile here and there when the male members of the audience were vying for her attention with outbursts of affection. She wore a long, medieval-looking frock, and stood at a podium draped in similar material. She looked beautiful, like something out of a Vermeer painting.

Oh, and their best instruments… their voices.

Despite being under the weather, Lisa's voice was mesmerizing. I had to sneak a side glance at the rest of the audience whenever she sang one of her ballads; everyone was sitting on the edge of their seats, absorbed in each tremor and quiver of her voice. We clung to every note she gave us. You'd think she was giving us air to breathe. Her voice is a MILLIONS TIMES MORE HYPNOTIC in person than on record. And Brendan was equally enthralling with his gorgeous, rich voice.

Their band was highly skilled, and together with Brendan and Lisa, they were just a powerful ensemble. And the fans were also great: enamored and giddy, but respectful and loving.

You have to see them in concert. You just [i]have[/i] to.

I went to the show at the Orpheum theater and Design femme put it nicely. The show was amazing. I was hypnotized by Lisa Gerards voice. and the band was tight. I took a couple of friends to the show, they had no idea what Dead Can Dance was all about and they were blown away too. I will remember this one.

I wasn't able to get to Boston or New York but I can attest to how fantastic they are live. I had the pleasure of seeing them several times and dining with them more than once (I used to work for 4AD). Wonderful people.

i love dead can dance...especially when Lisa Gerrard does her enchanting, out of this world vocals--makes me want to journey in a different dimension... eerie but beautiful...
