NWO MixCD exchange RESULTS, PART 2

YAY! More reviews!!! I’ve been totally enjoying the current round of mixes I’ve been listening to for the past couple weeks. Thanks again to everybody for the fabulous music! [:D]

XTC-1957: John, these are two great CDs [8D]! Delightfully heavy on the punk end of the spectrum, with throbbing beats and sneering attitude (“I’m gonna cut me liver out and shove it in your face!”), made even more interesting by the lighter songs you’ve included (“Trust In Me” is so dreamy…) Mixed in with the familiar favorites, you’ve included lots of bands that I haven’t heard before but have wanted to try—that’s what I love about this exchange. Thanks especially for the Buzzcocks tunes—I haven’t heard “What Do I Get” and “Everybody’s Happy Nowadays” in eons and I forgot how much I like them! John, I really like your taste!

Borneojimy: Another punk extravaganza (yeah, baby!!), yet there is surprisingly little overlap with xtc’s mix. I’m amazed at the diversity in everybody’s compilations. Jay, I absolutely love “Over the Edge” by the Wipers!!! I’ve never heard it before and it had me pogo-ing around the room (which freaked out the cats!). Another favorite is “All That I Wanted” by Belfegore—I love it! It sounds so familiar (like Judas Priest, LOL), but I don’t think I’ve heard it before. “Child Star” by the Diodes is twistedly funny with all the references to the show “Family Affair” (“Uncle Bill, Uncle Bill I took some pills”). Jay, your CDs are the perfect soundtrack for when I want to crank up the stereo, crack open a brewski, and piss off the neighbors! (That’s a compliment… [8D])

okay, so in the mail, I got KYYX4ever's seeds (no, not THOSE kind of seeds)—and wow! a wonderful bonus, a terrific CD mix.

Once again, too many damn good songs to list! I am constantly replaying the Fra Lippi Lippo (LOVE that song) and Tones On Tail songs. And, on the "newer" front, I love the Goldfrapp and Felix da Housecat songs. Pretty cool Chem Brothers track too!

And I will marry you for simply including "All Lined Up" by Shriekback. Seriously. That's a classic.

2Nu! I finally made it through your WLIR Faves megamix a couple of times. Thanks for the great stuff. I had about a third of it. The rest gave me a great feel for some of the quirky songs that WLIR must have played in the 80s and early 90s. It's like something I would have done for KROQ with the likes of "Friends of Mr. Cairo", some Dickies, Suburban Lawns, etc. I thought these especially were unique - not every one necessarily great but cool stuff to be exposed to...

Blir--my yard work this week was graced by your pre-MTV runner ups--again, mostly stuff I own but still one helluva collection!!Great stuff. Still have not gotten to your indie cd yet--soon.

Borneojimmy--latest 2 discs rocked!! Where to begin? Hilites are the Briefs , American Heartbreak, Libertine (really love I Dont Belong!!) , Broken Bottles , Dept of Crooks , Lost Sounds, Smogtown...I could go on and on!! Also liked the Ridgway tune--gotta love Ridgway!!

Bowiestation..where ya been? Dropped some emails your way and have not heard from you.

Otter--still have not gotten through your most recnt discs yet either-lookin forward to hearing them all.

Phillyidol: Man, these are great disks! Interesting combinations of songs. On disk 1 I especially like the songs by Liz Phair (I've always wanted to get some of her music), INXS, Siouxsie, Terence Trent D'Arby, Elvis Costello, Pete Shelley, and Living Color (I used to have a thing for Corey Glover in that shorty wet suit, swinging his lovely dreadlocks around [:p]). I digress..., is it hot in here [:p]? On "From a Whisper", is that Glenn Tilbrook singing with Elvis Costello? Sounds good.

Disk 2--you included THREE songs (Blue Monday, Cuts You Up, Pump It Up) that I listed in my top 10 favorite songs (http://www.nwoutpost.com/forum/topic.as ... hichpage=2). Also, thank you for the songs by Electronic and and Every Day is Halloween--I love those songs. Very cool compilations, Philly [8D]!

Why thank you very much. My collection may not be huge but I love to mix it up. I like lots of styles but i love to get out there and dance and pump my fist in the air. Glad you like it!

I just got done listening to "No Rhyme No Reason" 3 & 4, great stuff! Highlights for me included: 20/20, the Fabulous Poodles, Buzzcocks (where did that song come from?), Nits, Original Mirrors, Captain Sensible, Jack Rubies, etc... Good job again Randy!! Is there anyone that I owe discs to? Sometimes I can be pretty damned forgetful! There should be another mix or two done over the next few days for whoever might be interested, I'm working on "Bands you know, songs you (probably) don't" & another that I haven't titled yet.

[/quote]Glad you approve Blir, It's hard to guage the musical taste of those who hail (or hailed) from other parts of the country. That's what made me hesitant to put one of these together. The hub actually worked best for me since I was able to get immediate feedback from those who tried my recommended selections (Like Yourself, Grunch, Frayo, Kimiiii, and others). Not to diminish the gratification quotient of CDR swapping, it just worked best for me time and workwise. Again, Thanx for swapping with me! [:I]

Just received Marvs 2nd cd. I haven't listened to it yet, but the insert is great! Isn't it funny that we all thought we looked so cool with a cigarette hanging out of our mouths?
