Suggestions needed

Going to the library tomorrow for my weekly stash of books. Y'all give me some suggestions. What have you read lately that I ought to read? I'll read anything expect romance novels. If a book has a bodice-bursting woman on the front, I'm out.

Darkness Visible by Sir William "Lord of the Flies" Golding. But I must warn you the first 100 pages are a bit slow---but ironically at exactly page 100 the book becomes a roller coaster ride of political and religious intruige. It is my favorite book of all time. I even want to make a movie of it--but was disheartened when Sir William Golding died ------on my birthday. Who do I get permission to script it now?[:(]

Please trust me as a fellow Cure fan--(speaking of which you should read "The Stranger" by Albert Camus but you probably already have.)

I love libraries--you can impulse-shop without harming your pocket book. Fortunately (actually, not) where I live no one seems to read so it's easy to find the books I want. You are lucky to have a library that's open on Sundays!

I just finished "Mother's Milk" by Edward St. Aubyn. Very sharp social satire (ultimately a little depresssing tho). Reviewer said he could be the new Evelyn Waugh.

Right now I'm reading "The Last Witchfinder," a historical novel (about witch hunting, among other things) about which the NYT raved. I'm finding it rather tedious but am far enough along that I should finish.

My all-time favorite book is Donna Tartt's "The Secret History." I love a thriller with literary pretensions, though lately it seems there's a lot of crap in this genre with every author hoping he's stumbled on the formula for the next "Da Vinci Code."

My mum is the best in the world!!! UR, you are an example for younger generations of The Cure fans.

Now, about reading I really recommend you French poetry... especially if you are a Cure fan. Try Baudelaire, he is as dark as darkness reaches.

Turns out, I didn't have to go to the library afterall. Get this--I was checking out the LV Craigslist and ran across a listing from someone here offering 200 bestsellers for $15. I immediately emailed her and went and got the books this morning. My entire trunk was stuffed with books.

There is a small mountain of books in my living room floor right now. I'm such a dork. I'm so happy [:D]

Thanks for all the suggestions, though. I'm going to print them all out and hunt them all down once I get this mess straightened out.

I do that, too! I'll get into something, decide it sucks, and read it through to the end. I don't know what I'm hoping for--maybe that it'll magically get better--or maybe it's just my general stubbonness to see things through to the end.
