I have a bunch of In the Nursery CDs--they're OK, rather 4AD-ish with a bit of Laibach (_Baptism_ or _Macbeth_, not their parody stuff). Overall, a bit anonymous, but worth hearing. _Counterpoint_ and _L'esprit_ are good places to start.

I think I have a folder of their music on the hub...

Ism came out of the New York hardcore scene.
They had three songs that I remember quite well.
The first song was about would be assassin John
Hinkley Jr., then a cover of the Resident's
Constantinople and a punk cover of the Partridge
Family hit I Think I Love You with a controversial
45 sleeve with two monkeys fornicating with
pictures of David Cassidy's and Shirley Jones's
faces pasted on them. Josef Ism once played the
keyboard parts of Constatinople into my Casiotone
memory. I have all these songs in my collection,
but I'm in the middle of moving and locating
anything is near impossible.

...and I haven't felt so alive, in years.

The Individuals were part of the scene based in Hoboken in the early '80s along with The Bongos and The dBs. The band was Glenn Morrow (guitar, lead vocals), Jon Klages (guitar, vocals), Janet Wygal (bass, vocals), and Doug Wygal (drums).

Their sound was sort of a poppier version of early Talking Heads - slightly angular, with spidery guitars and funky bass. They made two records: the Aquamarine EP in 1981 and Fields in 1982, both released on the local label Plexus.

After they broke up, Glenn Morrow went on to form Rage To Live, who put out 2 albums, and founded Bar/None Records. Janet and Doug Wygal formed The Wygals, who put out one album on Rough Trade in 1989, Honyocks In The Whithersoever, which is excellent and should be owned by everyone. Janet went on to play in Splendora, and is probably most famous for singing the theme song to the MTV cartoon "Daria".

I've never heard Aquamarine, but Fields is one of my personal treasures. I was lucky enough to find someone on Soulseek had ripped it, so now it's part of my computer/iPod playlist.
