Comics to Film

Agree or disagree? Movies based on Marvel characters are usually better than those based on DC.

But let's limit it to those done in the 90's to the present. Everything sucked before that except maybe Superman I & II.

I really loved the X-Men, Spidey, Daredevil and Fantastic Four movies. Ok, so the Hulk and Elektra sucked big time.

Movies based on DC characters just don't do it for me. Too 2-dimensional.

All I can think of for DC comics to film other than Batman and I thought "Batman begins" was great is "Steel" (with Shaq),Supergirl,catwoman. Dc did do alot of tv such as the flash,wonder woman,Lois & Clark,Birds of Prey,Smallville etc,I think their were real stinkers with both franchises but with the suprise impact spiderman made Marvel was quicker to jump on the bandwagon and were alot more prolific with their output.

A major part of the Marvel success formula is their adherrance to tragic, or flawed, characters. This just makes for great drama. The ancient Greeks had it down to a science. I did'nt bother seeing Fantastic Four after reading so many bad reviews but I'll give it a chance on DVD. Which is more than I can say for Elektra. Supposedly the new Superrman film is supposed to borrow some of this same formula with him returning to Earth after a five year hiatus and dealing with trying to fit in again as well as dealing with single mom Lois Lane. Thankfully, this flick picks up after Superman II.

Really? You thought the Hulk sucked? I thought Ang Lee did a good job. Batman Begins was amazing. I'm just waiting for Iron Man. I hope it's really good. What about Thor? How incredible would that be?

I hope they do something cool with "Luke Cage, Hero For Hire". What a great concept for a "hero". He don't save the day unless you pay.

Honestly, I didn't watch Hulk in full. I think my brother was watching the DVD and I only saw portions - thought it was quite slow. Maybe I should give it another shot.

I'm not liking what little I've seen on the Ghostrider movie, there's too much computer graphics. Hope I'm wrong.

And marvymarv, you hit it right on the dot. I never realized it but the reason I like Marvel characters so much is that they're mostly underdogs, ordinary folks down on their luck or the persecuted kind. Most DC characters' lives are too ordinary, their alter-egos are too shiny and happy; others are too brooding as if they're carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders.
