Weird Computer Happenings

Postby ChristmasIsland » Mon Aug 07, 2006 6:06 am

Hello Everyone,

My computer has been acting odd at times. It went down today and booted to and OLDER VERSION OF WINDOWS (XP but it was dated 2 years ago.. the version I used a while back). What the hell! I have no idea how this happened but it did it. There we sat in that awkward silence.. me looking at it.. it looking at me.. we didn't quite know what to say to each other. I then decided to go eat some lunch.

After about 3 hours of messing with it, I got it back to normal. SOMEHOW, there are 2 older versions of my operating system lurking in the background somewhere and SOMEHOW one of them saw a chance and loaded itself.

I then proceeded to backup EVERYTHING to data DVDs.. including ALL the songs I had.. all the mp3 files I have downloaded, etc.

So please take a moment and BACK UP ALL YOUR STUFF!

I recall this thread I have 4-5 redundant backups of everthing and I am still paranoid. 3 external drive, 4 not including the drive the OS is on and one server.

I am still scared. DVD-Rs scratch SO EASILY.

HDDs crash. I have spent way too much time and money aquiring my hoardes.....if I loose my 1/2 Tera, I will die....it keeps me up at night. So I keep the HDDs mounted on a pedastol...clean...with their fans all clean and with coolers with them...i never do anything that might upset the delicate balance.

becasue one started to die....which reminds me of a request I need to make.

It flashed a single red light and the computer wouldnt read it. I fought the bastard with every computer engineering technique known to man (thanks, geek friends- I can fix everything just becasue I spent a year in the same room with you guys)....and stopped it from crashing....but not before I lost 400 hard to find new wave mp3s

As could my friends, but I didnt want to chance screwing my drive up. I just wanted to count my losses at where they were instead of taking more.
