Seeking Information: Academy

Postby deethelurker » Wed Sep 13, 2006 4:40 am

As a huge fan of New Wave music and as a (sorta novice) Wikipedia editor, I've been trying to get onto the Wikipedia site a few of the less well-known artists of the New Wave era. All of them are artists I truly care about, artists whose music has made me a fan (or at least an admirer) of theirs. One of these artists is the synthpop group Academy. Now, I have no idea how I got into this group in the first place, but I'm grateful I did, and I've managed to get enough information about them to put up the following stub article on them:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_%28band%29

If you guys could help me out with gathering up additional information on the band so I can formulate a better article, or if any of you are comfortable enough with editing Wikipedia, I would certainly appreciate your assistance with this matter. You can either choose to edit the article on your own with information, or you can use this thread to evince as much information about Academy as you know. Also, spread the word about this, please. That would also be useful.

Thanks.

It's good news you're trying to gather information about Academy, I like a lot the four songs I've heard by them (Tonight (the world keeps swinging), On the beach, White heat and Keep quiet).
I'd also love to know more about them. Maybe a list of their releases and songs could me made if we all shared our knowledge.

Ooh, you're in luck. Another editor has added a discography to the article so you can view a list of all the singles the band released. (And I looked over my contribution and it looks like I'm going to have to do a couple of minor tweaks to it.) Maybe someone else can help us out with figuring out who the band members were, who did what, where the band comes from, etc. I'd love to really get to know the band.

I was just about to ask about these guys when I found this thread. I have nine fairly interesting tracks in my library but can't remember how they got there...I'm suspecting the Euroglammerific tastes of Brambo. [;)] It's not exactly my cup of tea but interesting nonetheless. I got even more curious since they have no mention in either AMG or OMDB. Thanks for the Wiki reference...gotta remember to look there for often.

Now if I could just recall what other song "On the Beach" remind me of. It's bugging the shit outta me!

Great band, who reminded me of an underground version of Duran Duran, even with the looks. I read somewhere that they put out a self titled LP, but I have never seen it, so I ended up spending some $$$ and collected all of their known singles and B sides.
