Were you a jock?

Postby scramjet » Thu Mar 24, 2005 12:51 am

Or a jockette... er... female athlete? I suspect that there's an inverse correlation between new-waviness and athleticism, but maybe I'm wrong. The only athletic new wavers I knew did preppy sports like lacrosse, field hockey or crew.

The high point of my athletic career was winning the state doubles bowling championship with my then best friend in 6th grade. It was a handicapped affair. My season average was about 135; my friends was about 140. We both got hot at the state tournament and bowled three games each in the 160's. I've never bowled so well since.

In high school I did no sports but liked to ski and backpack. In college I played intramural volleyball, basketball and flag football, but was average at best at each.

So, if you've tasted the thrill of victory and/or the agony of defeat on the field, court, diamond, pool, or whatever- share your tales of athletic triumph or humiliation here.

(Oops - Meant to post this under "Not Necessarily..." Sorry.)

Hey Scram-
I was no where no being a jockette in high-school. I was too occupied by what I was going to be doing on the weekends. (If you consider dancing for about 8 hours straight than yeas I was athletic). I use to skip PE class every time we would ha

I love sports. I did basketball, baseball, and track through 8th grade. In high school I did track, cross country and wrestling. Played rec-center basketball through 10th grade. Did karate for 3 years. After high school played in several softball and

I was fairly athletic, but I really sucked at playing football. So, my best friend (and fellow new waver) and I quit my senior year and decided the we could (1) get out of class more and (2) get more chicks by playing tennis. That was a blast, because we

I was always fairly athletic, but definitely not a jock. I played baseball from 9-17 & played a couple million pick-up basketball games.

My worst moment in sports led to my best. I was cut from my high school baseball team my freshman year which devas

I was in cross-country in high school. I enjoyed that a lot, but overall I wasn't into sports at all.

And I hated PE. I never had to take it in high school, thank goodness. I was in orchestra, which got you out of PE (I don't know why?). Junior High PE

My claim to fame was I played on the high school basketball team. My senior year 1983-84 we had a really good team but came in 2nd place to the hated rival school. No extended playoffs back then. Football was THE sport at our school, but our classmates

No, I wasn't a jock and neither were my friends. I was the one in front of the high school smoking cigarettes and hanging with the guys who drove cool cars. (I no longer smoke) but looking back I really wish I would have participated in some kind of act

you know, I hear my Seniors say that all the time. Currently we are all gearing up for the usual mad rush towards graduation, and when/if I have some kind of reflection activity--reflection on their HS years--I am always amazed at how many of them say thi

Yes, I am a high school English teacher. I have the best job in the world. And I always thought it would be neat to be a History teacher, too. I cover a lot of history when I do Beowulf, King Arthur, et al, and those are the most fun afternoons!

I was one of the guys who was barely talented enough to make the team, but had a few very nice moments of glory as a result of my athletic pursuits. In football I intercepted a pass at midfield on the first play from scrimmage and returned it for a touch
