My wife and I are the same age. We didn't meet until the 90's and in fact we spent the 80's living on opposite coasts. Nonetheless, it is incredible how many similar experiences we had back in the day.
The weird thing is that today I am obsessed with new wave while for her it is like a dark secret part of her past she hides away. Hell, half the vinyl in my collection actually belongs to her (Bauhaus, Siouxsie, Tones on Tail - I guess she was a bit of a goth). I'm having trouble unlocking the secret.
The funny thing is that she knows all the stuff I play. The other day she was walking through the living room and stopped dead in her tracks. She turned and looked at me and said, with disdain, why are you listening to the theme song of Square Pegs? Now some of you may ask the same thing, but hell, I was impressed.
Sometimes I test her..."hey, Living on the Ceiling, what a great tune, I was a huge Soft Cell fan". "Its Blancmange, you idiot," she replies "from the Happy Families album. AND, the only Soft Cell song I've ever heard you play is Sex Dwarf". She is g-o-o-d.
