Pop Art - "Cover Me"

To call this power pop might be a bit of a stretch but it's more along the lines of a mellower, poppier R.E.M., if you'll pardon the ubiquitous R.E.M. comparison. Don't know much about this band but I believe they're from the South. Taken from the 1984 EP "Pop Art EP" (how's that for a title?)

Great stuff by this extremely overlooked jangly pop band. They had quite a few releases, I believe I have all of them, This EP was the first thing I owned by them. You can still buy their LP's sealed through their original label, Stonegarden Records, on the web. Unfortunately, other than a very good best of called Later On In The Same Life, and the CD of one of their LP's, Snap Crackle Pop Art, the rest remains vinyl only. I highly recommend them all for anyone digging gentle jangly pop. Incredibly catchy tracks on all their releases. Post Pop Art, David Steinhart the lead vocalist has 3 solo CD's all quite good, the first two very much like Pop Art. In addition, they formed another band, Smart Brown Handbag, with 9 CD's, all gems worth owning if you dig the Pop Art sound. Their most recent release has tracks I swear sound like they came right from one of their 80s releases. They maintained those jangly guitars, good vocals and catchy pop feel over the years. I asked Stonegarden if they ever planned to release the back catalog of Pop Art on CD, not at this time unfortunately.
