your first time seeing mtv

i remember our family got our first cable hook up about a week before mtv hit the airwaves. i actually got to see the inception of the channel and the buggles "video killed the radio star". the one thing that sticks in my memory is the station having nothing to show and putting up that running clock saying be right back. was watching vh-1 the other day and saw one of the videos i would sit and wait for hours to see. aldo nova's "fantasy". corny but i loved it.

the coolest part was being able to put a face on the music you were hearing on the radio, plus it brought new music that might not have been getting air play especially in all the areas between the coasts.

Cable wasn't offered in my our neighborhood back then, but a friend a few blocks away had it. I think the first video I saw was "Stray Cat Strut" and I remember thinking "What the heck is this?" Of course, now I think Brian Setzer is a musical genius.
