Pet Shop Boys &.....Britney Spears?

Postby MARV » Wed Jan 31, 2007 3:08 am

Oh boy, this may really challenge long time PSB fans, myself included. The masterful duo of cutting edge electronic pop and dance music have been working with Britney Spears on her upcoming album which is poised to propel her back into the spotlight as the world's number one princess of pop. I'm afraid this may actually come to be what with Neil and Chris behind the soundboard. The pair have a long history of working with established artists such as Tina Turner, Boy George, Elton John, David Bowie, Robbie Williams and Madonna. My biggest fear? I may actually like some of it.

Big potential for disaster here. But, look what PSB have done for folks: Dusty Springfield (In Private), Boy George (The Crying Game), even David Bowie (Hallo Spaceboy). Granted, none of these were huge hits, but they are all pretty good songs.

And, of course, there is the PSB mix of Madonna's "Sorry", which is far superior to the version on her album.

The other side of the PSB-produced coin includes Yoko Ono and Pete Burns and I think both of these tunes are pretty much unlistenable.

I did like Britney when she got a little Prince-like in "I'm a Slave 4 U".

So, I'll give it a shot. Here's hoping it sounds more like typical PSB and less like typical Britney.

what's so bad about it for PSB?
Britney already worked with Moby, if I am not mistaken
Personally I don't really like her vocals very much

They should have resurrected Debbie Gibson instead [}:)]

Who knows? The PSB might actually make her sound good for a change.

I think the potential for greatness is there. As mentioned earlier, Pet Shop Boys have done wonderful things for other artists. And, I still like Britney Spears. I feel quite sorry for her and her spinning out-of-control. I hope the "Boys" will make things right.

And Britney really can sing, it's just that her voice is heavily processed. Razormaid did a brilliant mix of her "Toxic" and Joseph Watt worked hard on making her "true" voice shine on through!

Maybe Britney will finally release a decent song now. I have faith the PSB. Marv, this is a big test for our favorite band.

She actually covered a few of their songs on that LP. Clearly, she has good taste [^] I've been a fan of hers ever since.

edit: Hey empy.....Martin Gore wrote that song for Irene Cara? Does anyone know if he's written songs for anyone else? I always thought he wasn't into that sort of thing. I'm gonna need to look into this.

Somehow, this is just like the stuff that I'd expect the PSB to do. Not that shocking...[;)]
I hope they manage to make Britney songs a bit more listenable... since we'll have to put up with listening to them every second on the radio. [:p]
Britney cannot sing... anyone who has watched any docummentary about her life, knows that. She owes computers a lot... a lot! [}:)]
