New wave song with tabla heard on WNYU in 1980's

Hello from cool and partly cloudy New York City! I am wondering if anyone can help identify any New Wave groups on the New Afternoon Show on WNYU, the New York University radio station on 89.1 FM, that have used tabla (double set of hand drums from India) during the 1980's, especially autumn of 1981 and autumn of 1982? I kept on hearing a moderately slow,minor-key, very haunting melody with a man singing and very fast tabla drumming in the background, but my searches to identify the name of the song and the group that performed it have been futile. I even tried to contact Vin Scelsa, the program coordinator during those years, in order to get a list of possible groups to look into, but now I have no idea as to how to contact him again. Any help you can offer on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! PS: I am thinking, maybe the group was Echo and the Bunnymen, but I have not known them to use tabla at least until about 1989; as for the Thompson Twins, the only song in which I have known them to use tabla is "The Gap", on the same album as "Hold Me Now". "The Gap", however, is a song with a brighter beat and more than one person singing. Thanks again!

You might want to check out some of the earlier Thompson Twins material (c. 1981-82). They used a lot of exotic percussion.

In particular, the song "Make Believe" from their debut album, I think has tabla in it. It definitely has an Indian flavor t

C Cat Trance "Shake The Mind." (Almost reminiscent of the Who's "Magic Bus" and used tablas and spoon type percussion. Got a lot of WNYU play.)

How about Blancmange, I think that's a tabla they use in "Living on the Ceiling" and "Don't Tell Me." No?
