in early 1982 there was a crop of fresh bands that were coming out of england as the next big thing...
it was the sound of pop/new wave, going back to their roots and the leaders of this genre were..........
JOBOXERS & ROMAN HOLLIDAY.
of course when their albums/ep's came out here in the states in 1982/83,the critics/clubs/radio labeled them new wave !!!!
both bands had that pop/new wave sensibility,and i can remember our local new wave stations & new wave clubs playin roman holliday & joboxers to death.
i love both bands and of course joboxers "just got lucky" still sounds fresh today as it did in 1983.
roman holliday probaly would've been huge if they came out in the early 1990's when that whole big swing craze was around,but they did have their share of success during new wave's heyday.
on roman holliday's 2nd lp "fire me up",they hired rock producer,"mutt lange",grew their hair long and left that swing thing behind & tried to sound like a typical 80's rock band,but it bomed.
roman holliday got back together in 2002 for some reunion tours & sold out where ever they played and they adopted their swing look again.
in 1986/87, steve lambert(vocalist from roman holliday) & culture club's,jon moss,formed a short lived band called, heartbeat u.k.
hey....roman holliday made it on the new wave outpost album list,so they cant be all that bad!!!!!! LOL
joboxers & roman holliday were both fine bands with their own sound(s).............
