Two huge interlocking circles matching one of the logos of the Church of Scientology have been discovered etched into the desert in New Mexico.

The pattern, which can only be viewed from the air, was filmed by helicopter by American news network CNN last night.

According to former Scientology member, Michael Pattinson, who was interviewed in the report, the circles mark a landing spot for reincarnated Scientologists returning from outer space.

He said they are a signpost to a nearby Scientology compound, where the Church of Spiritual Technology, an arm of the Church of Scientology, has reportedly built a nuclear-proof vault into the side of a mountain to archive and protect the works of founder L. Ron Hubbard.

The Church refused to allow CNN's reporters access to the compound and said that the symbols were just a logo, not a landing pad for aliens from outer space.
