Idiots like RIAA are still in defend-the-old-ways mode. Hopefully there's some industry people who recognize the comment that they "are not in control of these new business models, we live in a technologically advanced era and these models are growing up whether we like it or not". I also like the comment that "the new model is going to be made up of a variety of different models". There'll be different and numerous ways to make money - they better find it. I think there will still be a music industry, but it won't be made up of fat cats who control artists and music through narrow distribution channels. It might fragment the market more and make good album-oriented artists and music harder to find, but maybe it'll be a democratizer and get things creative again. Who knows.

But then you have Adolf Gonzales who thinks he can win by turning the US into a Brave New World:

It's weird how an artistic thing like music is basically co-opted by corporations. I guess it's always been that way - what we feel is a vehicle for self-expression, independence, or rebellion has always been a huge corporate money-maker. There's almost a subversive totalitarianism in that when it gets in league with government. I guess it's not weird then to have fascist elements of the government jump on board in the name of "homeland security". No doubt IP is important to our economy. I guess I'd just rather have people focused on fixing or creating new channels and going after people like the Chinese government rather than ourselves.
