"What should have been harmless insurrection became a demolition rally for hard-rocking, middle American, predominantly white dudes with dubious taste. "It's incredible that rock fans would actually riot for the right to hear REO Speedwagon and Foreigner,""

That part was hilarious. Especially the "dubious taste" part. Sadly those same people are still hearing those same songs today. When's the last time you heard anything remotely disco on the radio compared to the fact that every 3rd song you hear on any station is "classic rock." I could handle "Knock on Wood" or "Boogie Woogie Dancin Shoes" if it meant I didn't have to listen to "Whole Lotta Love" and "Band On the Run" for the 30th time in one week.

Though I can say from working in a record store, 1979 was quite possibly the worst year for music sales in the latter half of the 20th century, just overall. Sure you had the punk and power pop but for every one of those you had 20 no-name, one off bands who were never to be heard from again. We never sell anything from that year, and we have more cut-outs from '79 than probably every other year combined.

I must add something to this that I find incredibly ironic and crazy.

When I said above "Whole Lotta Love" and "Band On the Run" I literally picked two songs out of a hat, it's not that they're necessarily the most overplayed songs ever, just in the "classic rock" genre.

Well when I got in the car to go home yesterday after writing this, I hit the "we play everything" radio station, and they were playing "Band On the Run" so I switched to the "Light Rock" radio station cause it's close on the dial, and they too were playing "Band On the Run."

Neither of those stations is a "Classic Rock" station, and that's both sad and scary.

What's all this fuss I hear about "disco socks" ?
I wear them, and they're quite comfortable,
they keep my feet warm...
