Name That Tune, October 2009 -- results & answers!

Postby rsgonzalez » Fri Oct 09, 2009 7:27 am

It's been a while since I've done one of these, so here we go!

The rules are simple. One point for correct song, one point for correct artist. Twenty songs total means forty points is the maximum score.

Send me your answers with the "Email poster" button or at rsgonzalez(at)gmail.com.

Do not post any answers here!

You've got three weeks. The deadline is Sunday, November 1 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Good luck, and enjoy!

One week in, and only one person has sent in answers so far. I don't think I made it *that* hard ...

Please don't let that stop you from submitting answers. Like I said, only one person has sent me anything so far.

Whew, I guess this one is harder than I thought. I didn't grow up listening to '80s music but found it after the fact, so it's sometimes hard for me to judge what was truly popular at that time vs. what I have found and like.

One week to go. Six people have sent in answers. The average is 13.7 points, and the current top score is 18 points. It's anybody's game!

The competition is heating up! With eight players so far, the top score is 30 points and the average is 16.5. The deadline is midnight tomorrow night!

I'm not even sending my answers in... There are way too many of these that I don't know.

Whew, clearly harder than I thought. Nine people sent in answers. The average score was 17.1 points (compared to 26.9 points last time). Songs 9 and 10 went completely unguessed. Answers and breakdown:

01. Wall Of Voodoo - Do It Again (1 got the artist; 1 got the song)
02. Peter Schilling - Major Tom (Coming Home) (8 got the artist; 8 got the song)
03. Talking Heads - Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On) (4 got the artist; 3 got the song)
04. XTC - Life Begins At The Hop (5 got the artist; 5 got the song)
05. Cocteau Twins - Pearly Dewdrops' Drops (7 got the artist; 5 got the song)
06. Icehouse - We Can Get Together (3 got the artist; 3 got the song)
07. The Flirts - On The Beach (3 got the artist; 2 got the song)
08. Gang Of Four - Damaged Goods (5 got the artist; 5 got the song)
09. Mi-Sex - Space Race (0 got the artist; 0 got the song)
10. Cutting Crew - One For The Mockingbird (0 got the artist; 0 got the song)
11. Classix Nouveaux - Guilty (3 got the artist; 3 got the song)
12. Nomo - We Go To Sleep Believing (2 got the artist; 1 got the song)
13. Blancmange - Blind Vision (7 got the artist; 7 got the song)
14. Kim Wilde - Cambodia (5 got the artist; 5 got the song)
15. Siouxsie And The Banshees - Happy House (4 got the artist; 4 got the song)
16. Blue Peter - Don't Walk Past (5 got the artist; 5 got the song)
17. The Chameleons - In Shreds (2 got the artist; 1 got the song)
18. Bauhaus - She's In Parties (3 got the artist; 3 got the song)
19. Berlin - The Metro (9 got the artist; 9 got the song)
20. Gary Numan - Metal (4 got the artist; 4 got the song)

I thought more people would get 3, 4, 6, 15, and 17. Shows what I know! Also, I found 12 through the New Wave Outpost: http://www.nwoutpost.com/sotw200.html

3rd place -- brock with 20 points

2nd place -- schwenko with 22 points

1st place -- Repeat winner Jefe taking names with 30 points!

Thanks again for playing, even the folks who didn't know too many. I appreciate the positive feedback, and I'll try to do these more often. If anyone else wants to give it a go, please do! I enjoy playing them even more than making them, especially since I have a lot of music left to discover.
